Yeah, that was a joke. Poor one I guess.

I have one that has a coil and a moving magnet inside. You shake it a bit (or more precisely quite lot) and it charges the battery inside. It's more of novelty item than actually useful.

Now I just use a Maglite and put Eneloops in it.

I used to have a Maglite. Then I got one of those US military surplus anglehead lights with the light and lens part at 90 degrees respective of the battery and switch. I swear it's better and cheaper than a Maglite (I got mine for 15 bucks). It's plastic but I've dropped it countless times on pavement, ground, etc. form 5.5-6 feet up, Have stepped on it quite a few times, and the original bulb is still working and the flashlight doesn't have any damage beyond light scratches. I have the MX-991/U variety, and the /U means that it has gaskets all around so that if it gets underwater water won't flood the internals. I've tested this and am glad to say it works beautifully. The only problem is it takes D cells, and as far as I know they don't make rechargeable D cells.

They do make rechargeable D cell.

Search for HR20.

I like the Maglite. It's small (takes just 2 AA), bright enough for my needs, lasts long on the batteries, etc, but the surface finish is something I really really like. When you grab it, the smoothness of the metal brings me an inexplicable joy.

I'm the same way with the plastic finish. I can't describe it, but I like it A LOT. And the switch is brass, and I LOVE the feel of the brass switch too.

How do you shake it?
