Camacha
The very worst thing you can do in times of distress is fall apart as a society into fearful, independent shards that do not trust each other one bit. I hate to be that guy, but that would be an almost complete victory for terrorist powers. Keeping a cool head, uniting (black, white, muslim, atheist, christian, whatever) against malicious forces and keeping true to the values we hold dear is the only proper response. If you tear yourself apart, one way or another, you just provide evil with an easy win.

longbyte1
The problem with assuming things based on the news is that we cannot determine if this was an edge case where something really stupid happened, or this is happening all the time in the US but never hear about it.Anyway, there are two possible topics that the news covers on this event: (1) the prejudicial implications of Ahmed's detainment, and (2) the support that Ahmed gained for his clock. Now don't get me wrong, kids don't build clocks commonly. But there are thousands of kids like him who don't get attention or encouragement for what they do or want to do, because the press decides who gets the publicity and who does not, and it is only natural for politicians and celebrities to play the publicity game and respond to the news. Camacha
http://i.imgur.com/GnV1Skt.jpgMoo point, everyone would have been dead anyway if this were a real IED. The response was not very competent, and that seems very kind.

Camacha
That near the anniversary of 9/11 gets me every time. It has been 14 years. It is time to start letting go. Everything is near an anniversary of something, many of those things being much larger than the 9/11 attacks.I am not going to respond to the race or islam card being played (the maker seems confused which one), since I feel the response to the pop tart incident was utterly backwards too. This is not about race or religion, this is about society tearing itself apart by overreacting to anything and everything. Please refrain from just posting pictures, at least tell us what you make of it. Zucal
Moo point, everyone would have been dead anyway if this were a real IED. They may look similar, but there's a difference between seeing a box filled with wires in the middle of a war-torn, violence-racked country filled with hostile forces, and seeing the same object held by a fourteen-year-old engineering student in school wearing glasses and a NASA shirt. And even if that was an actual bomb, the school didn't even handle the situation properly. Call a bomb squad, and inspect the goddamn clock or something, don't lock an innocent 14-year old in handcuffs immediately.
Pixel of Life
This is stupid. I don't know about you, but if I was a terrorist, I'd probably try to make my bomb look like anything but a bomb and avoid showing it to anyone... Everyone's so paranoid nowadays that only an idiot would build a "hollywood bomb" hoping people are like "dude, nice replica, it looks exactly like the bombs you see on movies". Camacha
Others are cold and rational-minded due to life experiencesI detest and reject the notion that to be rational minded you have to be cold and/or jaded by life. Besides, feeling and acting sensibly are not mutually exclusive. Edited September 18, 2015 by Camacha

Camacha
Police looked into case and decided not to punish him, partly because of the reasons, that make this thread so inflammatory. The police did not punish him because he did nothing wrong. That is how a functioning judicial system works - or should work.
sal_vager
Gentlemen I'll not ask again, stay on topic and refrain from personal attacks and arguing with each other. On second thought, this thread has strayed from its original topic and there's not much left to be said, you are all able to follow this in the news to see how it develops, but this is a site for a computer game, not political argument, so this thread is now closed.
