{AMRSD} High-roller 45m/s 100MPH mega truck

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I'm happy to announce the latest AMRSD craft, the high roller:

It will spawn on the side of the runway, that's normal. It will also destroy the runway. Also normal.

It cruises at 45m/s, any higher and you're off warranty. It can get up to 50m/s on slopes, but it will begin to fall apart.

You can do some awesome jumps with it:

It barely steers, you have to hold the key for quite a while to change direction, but it's fast.

Thanks to Jon144, who helped me with it.

Enjoy!

P.S.

There's also the most awesome part, the explosions:

You see, I've got a sort of World War I tanks project (currently on backburner because of Spacecraft Friday and U-Boat). One of the tanks I plan to build is the Russian Tsar Tank (http://www.oddlyhistorical.com/2015/03/29/russias-three-wheeled-death-machine-tsar-tank/), and the stock rover wheels are waaaaayyy too small. This Mega Wheel design might be perfect for it!

I'm going to play with this. But before I do, and before I then deconstruct it for giggles... Steering. What if you were to steer it like a skateboard? Have the wheels joined together on a sort suspended truck and then by adding in "roll" from the main craft (maybe add some more torque wheels) that would then force that side to compress, thus bringing the two wheels closer together, and bam. Steering.

Of course, that may just be my beer logic... Anyhoos.

Love it! One more freakish creation to depart from the standard obvious ways!

And yes, kudos to Jon144 and all the others who made freakish vehicles in the past.

May your path be dealt with good suspension and ideas!

(And I have a few of my own, btw  )

It doesn't look like it and I have not tested it yet... But does it also have electrical traction motors? As in SAS modules with the axels that provide electrically powered torque? I found it useful for saving fuel efficiency for such a large rover and helping climb inclines.

Heh ... building new concepts in KSP is all about pioneering ... efficiency ... that comes into play in a career mode :-)

Yep. But I have been designing mine to actually be usable in some practical sense like rescuing kerbals stranded in the middle of nowhere. Something with 3 seconds of fuel can't do that unfortunately :( Unless you cheat... I feel too hesitant to release something that isn't practical.

What in the world am I saying? I still just had to make a sport version of my truck after seeing this xD

Ohhhh yesss. It looks like a low-rider.

Thanks! It was actually inspired by this:

From Eoin McNamee's book The Navigator. That thing is called a Q-Car, and it's the only bit of the book which stuck out to me. I didn't make the cabin because of part count restrictions.

Feel free to use, adapt or otherwise take my designs.

Hmm, that's not a bad idea, it may be hard to get it to bend without sagging too much.

No, it doesn't. I almost added them after taking apart your mega truck, but I would have had to put the crew compartment even lower, plus, it's already completely useless since it can't steer, so it might as well be fuel inefficient too. :)

Wow, those wheels are crazy, lol!

Thanks!

I hope you release it, it's seriously good looking!
