getting a manned drill setup to Duna for less than 30k?

Hello fellow ksp fanatics,

Last night, I did something silly during my campaign game: i almost used up all my money after upgrading a facility. I've only got 30k left in bank. I cant accept any more contracts and i want to bring a manned drilling facility with converter to Duna.

I know i could just finish a few contracts to solve my problem but where's the challenge in that.

I was wondering what's the cheapest way to get my payload to duna without cheating and without using any part related mods. See it as a small challange. i guess 30k is not enough to get to duna since the payload alone will cost at least 15k or so...

I will try to come up with a solution myself asap. I'm looking forward to see any designs you boys and girls come up with.

Good luck with that man! I just finished assembly of a transport ship with a dry mass of 22t and wet mass of 202t... Just the first stage fuel modules cost 225k to high orbit. What I'm doing is way different than you but I'm sure you'll need lots of root. I can't see doing what you're proposing for less than 200k...

Yeah.. I just finished work when I got the idea and didn't think things quite through... 30k aint gonna cut it not by a long shot.

Sooo, i tried. I failed. But i have not given up yet. I think it is barely doable. However, some badS piloting skills are required.

This is my current version of the Black Friday Duna Rocket

It's currently 33,094 Funds. I think on could rip off the SAS module and stuff some more fuel in the main module to reduce weight and cost on the orbit insertion stage.

I brought this one into Orbit with 1048 m/s left. Mechjeb plotted me a manouever to duna with 1046 m/s.

Maybe I'll give this another try one day.

This is truly amazing. I didn't think this would be possible at all! But i guess a couple of additional credits would get you to duna... or to moho and back haha.
