Science The Kedgehog - Kerbin

Recommended Posts

One day, Jebediah and Valentina were playing a game on an old kega console that has a Kedgehog breaking every speed limit in the known universe while collecting these things that would ring and give points when the Kedgehog ran into them.

Then Bill walked in with Neil and Bob who were both mesmerized by the speed in which that little Kedgehog could run. Now Bob, being one of Kerbal Kinds most prestigious scientists (the other one being Neil), was thinking about the next mission and wanted to gather as much science he could from only one launch.

He told Neil about what he was thinking and Neil replied something to the effect that he could gather more science than Bob could from around Kerbin AND her Mun's as well as doing it faster than Bob could ... This turned into a heated argument which was quickly quashed when Jebediah said to Neil "Then prove it!"

So it was written, and so it shall be done ... Just Kerbin for now!

OBJECTIVE:

- Gather as much science as you can from on/around Kerbin and her Moons (Minimus and the Mun) as quickly as possible using a single launch vehicle

RULES:

- No Mods Whatsoever ... nothing, nada, do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars

- No F12 or other cheats

- One Launch from Kerbin Only ... If you can get it into orbit using one launch vehicle then it's all gravy

- The SOI of Minimus as well as the Mun must be visited although you are encouraged to land on them to get more science

- This is a Kerbal'd mission, so at least one Kerbal MUST make it to space (70Km up) ... you MUST also return your Kerbal(s) back to the surface of Kerbin Safely

- Littering is allowed ... Leave as big a pile of junk as you want anywhere in the solar system

- Pictures or it didn't happen

SCORING:

TIER 1 - Most Science gathered

TIER 2 - Calculated as Average Science per Hour

NOTE: - Planting a flag is worth 250 Science points for the purposes of this challenge, however only one flag on each of the 3 giant space rocks will count (Kerbin, Minimus and the Mun) for a Maximum total of 750 additional science points (Planting more than one flag on any of the three will not gain you any extra science points above the initial 250 per flag per space rock)

- Flag Science will be added BEFORE your score is calculated for both tiers

- Remember, 1 day is equal to 6 hours

- Your time will be rounded down to the nearest hour

DIRECTIONS FOR SETTING UP A GAME FOR THIS CHALLENGE:

- Start a NEW normal game in Science Mode and name it 'Science the Kedgehog - Kerbin' or something to that effect, then after it has loaded and you see your space center return to the main menu

- Open the 'persistence.sfs' for this challenge in a text editor (Google this if you don't know what I am talking about)

- Use the text search function in your text editor (Ctrl+F using Windows Notepad) and search for 'sci =' (minus the quotes)

- Replace the 0 after the '=' symbol with 16918 (the amount of science required to open the complete tech tree) and save the file ... It should read 'sci = 16918' (minus the quotes)

- Resume the game, enter the research facility and research your tech tree completely, you will be left with 0 science after the whole tree has been opened

- exit your R&D facility and save the game then take a screenshot of your space center so that you show you have 0 science at the start

- Start Building your ship

Remember, it is the amount of science gathered from on/around Kerbin and her moons, the safe return of your Kerbal(s) to Kerbin and the time in which you do it that matters for this challenge ... Don't forget that a scientist can be very influential on the amount of science points collected

As for what information is required to enter, use my entry below as an example.

And remember, lots of photo's as both proof and a record of your epic journey

I plan on repeating this again after I make a few modifications to the Canuk 787, I think I can bring back even more science

If you read the rules as I posted them you will notice the following:

- The SOI of Minimus as well as the Mun must be visited although you are encouraged to land on them to get more science

-This is a Kerbal'd mission, so at least one Kerbal MUST make it to space (70Km up) ... you MUST also return your Kerbal(s) back to the surface of Kerbin Safely

Plus even if you did what you described and it was allowed in the rules you would have a Science score of 0R250 since 250 divided by zero is 0R250 ..... Flag Science plus Collected Science DIVIDED BY time in hours rounded down to the nearest hour

Methinks you didn't read the rules
