Capped FPS

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Lately i've received a laptop with i5-4210U. I know it's not a gaming maschine or nothing even close to that, but science it's power is somewhat similar to my old PC i hoped to run KSP at stable 40FPS, but.... FPS seems to be capped at 25, in Space Center and in space. I've tried to change settings ingame and in Intel Graphics, but it does nothing, it still shows straight 25.0 FPS. Hope someone can help me :D

Hi Mayen, KSP's default frame rate limit is 120, and it can be found on the Graphics tab of the Settings screen.

Sync to v-blank is also on by default, this delays the screen redraw to when the screen refreshes to prevent tearing of the picture, so it limits KSP's frame rate to your monitors refresh rate.

The monitor can't display faster than its refresh rate anyway, so having a higher FPS just means it's drawing frames you'll never see.

You may be able to change your screens refresh rate though, there are usually options in your driver settings, googling found this that may help, also you should ensure your laptop is not using any low power settings and is in high performance mode, as well as plugged in to the mains.

If you google your laptops screen you may be able to find what refresh rates it is capable of, if it's only capable of a maximum of 25 then you're stuck with it, but that is unlikely as the standard is 60.

If you can provide more information on the laptop we could take a look, please run Dxdiag and put the contents of the report on a text sharing site for us.

Thanks for the answer.

All settings were on max performance. Screen seems to be on 60p Hz refresh rate. Turning off sync made game more playable, FPS count is still low but FPS curve is now not smooth and tearing has stopped.

Here is dxdiag.

Save and all files are just copied from my PC. Maybe it's just what i can achieve on it.

Hmm, can you please tell me what method you are using to find the FPS, and your FPS with the current settings (v-sync off).

You may also want to consider updating your graphics driver, as your dxdiag says your current driver is from 1/23/2014, the latest driver for your card and Windows7 64bit are dated 8/19/2015, you can find Intels instructions on doing this here.

I had some trouble with updating them, but finally i instaled new driver manually. Not much has changed, like 1 or 2 FPS more. I'm using in-game Debug Toolbar.

Can someone with Intel HD 4400 say how much frames they have on 1366x768 resolution in Space Center. I've found only one answer saying 40 but it was Linux system.

My current FPS in space is around 26 but in Space Center still straight 25.

That framerate graph is known to be wrong. If I remember rightly it incorrectly shows any framerate below 25 as 25.

http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/116034 is a mod that adds a correct fps display. There's also one to show "physics time ratio" which is how much the game lags. Alternatively use FRAPS or any other program that monitors framerate.
