Why does the resource level of asteroids evaporate?

Recommended Posts

I get to one, I mine it and change it's course, I go and do other things, I come back and it's nolonger 95% good stuff but is now useless.

What is going on?

I note that the old bug of everything bouncing about on asteroids has been fixed, thanks, but why this?

Also any chance of being able to use space mining to build parts for space ships? I'm thinking guirders and such to start....

Yeah it's to do with how RoverDude programmed it, there's a bug issue open here on the tracker.

Link to tracker issue 5209.

From what I understand, ore is extracted in batches and processed behind the scenes, especially when using warp for any length of time, but this is not clear to the player.

If you could add your info to the tracker issue it'd help with having this changed.

If you leave the miner running on the asteroid and go do other things, from what I gather, the code that runs the drill checks when you reload does not stop when you run out of storage space for the fuel or ore. So,when you reload after sufficient time, the asteroid can wind up completely depleted.

Ah!!!

It even does not process the damn stuff into fuel. OK. I will treat the rocks a little differently.

Well, you need an ISRU to process it into fuel, not just a drill....

But yea, basically as I understand, it will continue to drain the asteroid, even if your ore tanks are full...

Which isn't an issue on non-depletable planets/moons

No it is fine when I leave but when I return it has suddenly gone without me actually getting it. I am sure a D class asteroid should not do this.

Yep.

Its like starting a campfire, then going to sleep.

And wondering why the fire is out when you wake the next morning.
