Any good tools for eliminating thrust offset?

Recommended Posts

Just got done fine tuning a asymmetric lander to have 0.0 degree thrust offset, only to realize my docking port was slightly offset. Is there a tool to easily center these things in the builder? Kerbal engineer showing it in flight in nice but its becoming a real hassle.

To be clear, I'm looking for something that will allow me to get thrust exactly centered, in the VAB.

If you use the translate gizmo (press 2 then click the part) and have angle snap on (press C) hen drag the gizmo arrows, your parts will snap to an invisible grid centered on the parent, so you can get surface attached parts to line up accurately.

Turn off angle snap for per-pixel adjustment.

Try the addon RCS Build Aid.

Yes it's great. It lets you look at torque from engines, from RCS (translate and attitude), it has options to look at CoM and dCoM (dry Centre of Mass), and you can even include which resources you want to be included with the dCoM calculations. No ships of mine leave the hanger or VAB without tweaking torques to a minimum first.
