*shifty eyes* Will this swell up when it absorb contaminants? You know, for girls who need a little "enhancement"? Not that I am interested or anything. <.< >.>

On more serious matters, how durable is this thing? I don't want accidental rip or tears from either the sponge or the 3d printed structure. And why not just deploy a ton of these on oil spills, especially if they are not expensive?

If it biodegradable maybe the fish will eat it, problem solved. hmmm, the law of unintended consequences kicks in again.

ive known about 3d printed clothing for awhile now. saw a 3d printed dress on hack a day. whats cool about it is that they are printed in a folded state and can be unfolded when it cools. the models who were wearing it said that it wasnt very comfortable.

i just ordered me a printrbot play (with the y axis expansion upgrade with heated bed option). im mostly going to be building project enclosures for my electronics projects. have an idea for a modular panel system for various games. no intention to print bikinis (i dont think it will fit in the 4x8x5 build area on my bot).

Well, you can print string bikini. Though the question is, who is going to wear it?

lol, you went there. . . . . .No but if you place a wheelunder the print base you actually could. I think for most of the people in this group we are beyond string bikini age, let alone appropriate body form.

given the local climate i dont think a bikini is a good idea. i have on a dare jumped in the local water (which has chunks of ice from the glaciers in the area in it), fully clothed of course, not recommended (and that was in the summer).

This sounds like a better idea for stuff like boat hulls and buoys than swimsuits. I'm all for cleaning the ocean, but preferably not by having all the goop stuck to my naked skin.

They say the material is capable of trapping contaminants between its cells and prevent anything from touching the wearer.

However...to absorb those contaminant in the first place means you have to swim into them. Which means you will get stuff stuck on the part of skin not covered by the swim suit, which, for a bikini, is a lot.

So yeah, slap them on ship hulls, buoys, or maybe oil rigs supporting pillars sounds like a better idea. But such a common sense idea would never hit the news.
