Today my phone decided to upgrade it's Android OS. Ok, yea, fine, security enhancements... but did it need to change the colors and icons for everything as well?

What android OS you using? CyanogenMod? CM Nightlies? default android?

Galaxy S6 here. It's my favorite way to troll the forums.

Biggest reason I never even considered an iPhone was iTunes. Can't stand it, pretty much the most useless music player ever (I prefer old-school Winamp-style drag-and-drop playlists), and tying the phone to that software instantly kills it.

There's also the development side of things. An Android development environment was quick and easy to set up and the Play store was simple. My dealings with getting an app up on the Apple store convinced me that Apple are a bunch of bureaucratic jerks. "Think different (just so long as you're thinking the same way as Steve Jobs!)" indeed.

No, think like an overzealous cop... Everyone's trying to steal IP. Even if all they want to do is listen to their music or watch a video on something other than a crappy little screen or using some crappy headphones, you won't allow it because they're certainly going to exploit that ability for illegal purposes!

Don't get me started.

Maybe not phone related, but definitely related to the "not-serviceable except by a certified technician" era of devices.

Difference between Apple and PC users.

When Apple users wanted a computer in a different color, they bought an iMac in a different color.

When IBM-compatible users wanted a computer in a different color, they bought a can of spray paint.

It reminds me way too much of the space pen (even though the story "the Russians just used a pencil" behind it was a hoax). The space pen would certainly have been the Apple product.

True. The lack of microUSB for charging is a crime, IMO. I'm surprised they don't have a proprietary headphone jack...

Just imagine what electricity would be like if it was invented today, with modern corporate thinking. We'd all be pulling our hair out to try and find devices with outlets to fit our houses. And the use of adapters to simplify things would be a form of piracy worthy of prison time.

Well, not exactly. There probably would have been a period like that, but then we'd settle down into the "Apple house" and the "95% of the world house". And you'd never want to visit your friend who owned an Apple house unless you owned one yourself.

To answer OP's question: I'm using a Sony Xperia Z2. Has a 5.2" screen, a 20.7MP camera and a 2.3GHz quad core processor. Battery life isn't too good but it's more than enough to last a day (as long as I don't watch youtube videos all day). Oh, and it's purple.

My first Android phone - the one I had before this - was an Xperia Z1, and the one I had before that was an iPhone 4S. The moment I got the Z1, I knew I'd never go back to iOS.

Personally, I can't stand phones. I miss my old simple little flip-phone. My current 'smart phone' I have dumbed down to an idiot ... I use it for phone calls and an occasional text message - that's it.

My phone has tactile buttons. Yep, I can send text messages without even looking at it, while everyone else is risking death when doing ANYTHING while operating one.

Still don't want a smart phone. As much as I love computers, I despise the idea of being tempted to check my mail when I'm not in front of a workstation.

he means like, mostly for games, iFunny, that kind of thing. which is true to an extent. Android is basically iPhone with 10,000 times more customizability. heck if you're brave enough you could make your UI look like the iPhone's UI (idk why you would).

It's a lot less "locked down" than iPhone is, more apps (Yep, android has 1.5mil and IOS has 1.4mil apps). the ability to change literally everything about the phone (software wise)

Nope not true, you can jailbreak it then you can customize everything you want. You could then even put Androids UI on the iPhone (idk why you would)

Also to be able to customize Android you also have to at least root it. I am speaking as someone who has both an iPhone and Android phone so i know what i'm talking about.

Also unlocking the bootloader and/or rooting becomes harder and harder with each Android phone coming out. If you are not buying a model the specifically allows you rooting or with an unlocked bootloader you also may have to wait a long time until someone finds an exploit to do it. I don't see any advantage over the iPhone in this point at all.

The ability to change your android based OS entirely! That's right, you can switch from say CyanogenMod to OxygenOS if you feel like it, from OxygenOS back to CyanogenMod if you don't like it!

You could make a OnePlus One look like a galaxy S6 Edge. it's that customizable.

Yeah with the OnePlus this works just fine however OnePlus is not Android, there are many Android phones out there which are locked down and trying to do that could leave you phone to be bricked if you don't know what you are doing.

So please spare us with you fan boy attitude towards Android, all manufactures from both systems are companies which have profit in mind and try locking out users from doing specific things with their phones.

I have to laugh. This morning on the news I saw something about a new medical condition kids are finding themselves with - "Text-neck". It comes from excessive use of smartphones and tablets with poor posture. In my book, if you have text-neck you're a total loser.
