Why do people make so many NASA conspiracy Theories?

You're wrong on this one. The less a society is developed, the worse and the more widespread the conspiracy theories will be because they correlate with ignorance and average poorly civilized behaviour. Don't judge the presence of a nationality on an English-speaking part of the Internet as an indicator.

Why do we see lots of US American conspiracy quack sources? Because US American content dominates no matter what the topic is. Other nationalities that use English or are fluent enough in it are relatively smaller in size.

Do we (or Google Trends or whatever) have an accurate measurement of these things on the Internet in the Middle East? No. Different language, even different scripts! Internet is a much, much larger place than we are aware of, but we just don't see it because the links between these areas are very poor. We have enormous lack of awareness for online volume written in Cyrillic, all sorts of Chinese characters and their derivatives... That's an enormous amount of material, volume and social network communities that simply have low interconnectivity.

These online worlds touch at places like certain Facebook pages by people who use both languages and Latin script. With that in mind, one can notice the enormous amounts of conspiracy theories and general hatred coming from certain areas, which is caused by current events, as well.

I can ensure you that, if one would randomly probe opinions of statistically significant quantities of people in each country, that things like creationism, antivaccine ideas, NASA conspiracies like "Apollo hoax", general and specific superstitions, hatred and discrimination of minorities, disagreement with acceptance of human and civil rights, would be absolutely enormous outside urbanized, Western societies. It's nothing weird. It's just how things always worked.

The reasons we see the popularity of it in the West is awareness and presence of nutty people who have enough access on the English speaking, Latin written parts of the Internet.

I come from a country that uses Latin script, but one of Slavic languages. Trust me, more than 90% of the user generated comments are drenched in stupidity and hatred. It just gets worse the less socially developed a country is. The Internet allows us to have a peak in the reality because anonimity gives confidence to people. Behind tourist offers, nice smiles, great food, you'll find biggotry, stupidity and brutality.

You are right here, I focused on middle east as its its an area who is more in focus than most other part outside the west.

And yes newspaper discussion forums are not an place to get an good view of people, mostly as they have become an troll arena :)

However the more extreme conspiracy theories draw attention as they are so weird or repulsive not because many believe in them.

You have to be very far into tinfoil hat territory to believe in chemtrails to take one example.

I think I found the page/admins/users behind the attack.

I don't think they need anymore exposure than they deserve if that is the case.

Also, if they are in support of flat earth theory...why do they call it a "conspiracy"? Do they even know what that word mean?

WARNING: This post is heavily based on me pondering over the question for about 5 minutes with really no Google used to back up claims during the making of this post. Lack of confirmation, internal contradiction inside the post, et al. may frighten some users. Viewer discretion is (comically) advised.

Theory: It's fun. Who hasn't wanted their own world?

Okay, this may take some explaining. Conspiracy theories come from a general thought of "that cannot be!" or "that shouldn't be!" or "wouldn't it be interesting if that wasn't? wait a minute, it might not be!", or "it would make more sense if that was/wasn't"

NASA conspiracy theories are all of these.

  • NASA was under pressure, and in a race with the Soviets, why not just fake it? It'd be easier to fake it convincingly, and there's some evidence to support they did![citation needed]
  • Going to the moon is really hard. We didn't even have iPods back then, how could they go to the moon?
  • My uncles girlfriend's third cousin's brother is always bragging about how he saw an alien, and they looked JUST LIKE E.T! then again he always seem a little off after that squirrel attacked him
  • The earth is flat. I totally think that makes sense, like, air is weird, it COULD be flat, all that curvature effects nonsense when looking at the ocean could just be something else! Spheres are so complicated, like, they couldn't be planets. If the earth is a sphere why am I not being drawn to the other sides!

Thing is, most start due to something (flag moving in moon landing example), and even when that gets disproven, you can get so far deep into the rabbit hole it starts making sense, though mostly due to it's own internal logic. This is why people tend to be full blown conspiracy nuts in one area or no-conspiracy, because many conspiracies support others. Quite a few conspiracy theories need something to latch onto, but even when that goes away, they've already built themselves a nest, their own world full of internal consistencies that leaving it would be very hard, ("b-but if aliens didn't land on Earth to give Apple the first iPod, then why did the pyramids disappear as payment?" "They're still there, Jim. "NO THEY'RE NOT") -ludicrous example, but it gets the point across.

-my two cents, purely based on speculation. Also, conspiracy totally stopped sounding like a real word. Conspiraccccyyy
