Your mission today is a simple one: take-off from the KSP, destroy the seven aerial balloon targets, and then land on the aircraft carrier located in the south-east. The pilot with the quickest time will be considered the best of the best.

All entrants are automatically entered into the beach volleyball competition. Shirts are optional but strongly discouraged.

I like the look of this. I think my Advanced Jet Trainer will be ideally suited for this with a big frikkin\' laser attached. I\'ll give it a go sometime this weekend when I have time. Great challenge mate!

Do we actually have to use guns, or can we use the Sunbeam particle cannon? Hitscan weapons seem a little cheaty if everyone else is using railguns.

Also obviously those are custom models, what mods do i need for them or will they come with the persistence file? cheers

Good point. I plan on using HSTW Laser but I won\'t use the auto-targeting feature. Bit too easy with that I\'d say. I\'ll put it up in a video at some point once I\'ve done it.

All the parts required are in the attached file. No plugins required.

The balloons are treated with a special reflective and ablative coating that gives it a maximum heat tolerance of 1 × 10³⁰. I had non-rechargable kinetic weaponry in mind when creating this challenge, although you could ram the targets if you wanted to.

The aircraft carrier is only 150 m long, so you would have to land extremely slowly. Just a reminder that holding \'b\' key activates wheel brakes.

Drogue chutes a few seconds before landing would really plop an aircraft onto the deck. Knowing me I\'m probably going to screw up my own persistence file for this but considering everything already blew up, this is worth it

As long as the plugin isn\'t overpowered, you can use anything you want.

That carrier is tiny, the only way you can land on it is with a very small plane to begin with. 3 stock large liquid tanks is just entirely too much weight...

You can try to use the structural Mk1 instead of the Mk1 fuel tank to save weight or use more landing gears to increase braking force.

Mk16 parachutes mounted just ahead of your tail end can serve as handy airbrakes but don\'t miscalculate!

Wow, this is great fun to fail! First I tried modifying a longer range, three engine fighter with lighter fuel tanks and railguns, but that\'s too unwieldy. Now I\'m trying a way smaller single engine design which is having far more success. I first tried with a helicopter - way easier than with a plane! Using the Sunbeam as a laser sight for railguns helps loads, as does the hull cam, but the laser\'s rather heavy...

If only we had a smaller weapon... the railgun is huge and its ammo weight really starts to stack up. I miss the particle cannon.

Gah! Shot down all of the targets, but my stupidly oversensitive joystick then decided my plane should flip over while trying to locate the aircraft carrier. I\'ve turned the sensitivity all the way down in the options but it still considers pulling the joystick halfway through its range to be full on turning. >

Well, I think my B-57 Javelin aircraft (a refitted F-56 Spearhead found on the Spacecraft Exchange but broken by the attachment node changes) might be able to do this. I tested it on some targets and landed on the carrier with all parts intact, although the gear began to sink into the hull. Damn, that thing is SMALL.

Edit: Yup, the Javelin managed it, sadly didn\'t beat the record time but I got a time of around 5:20 (take 5:35, the indicated, if you want but I took a screenshot on the deck after touchdown) and my aircraft was in the same state as when it took off but with the drogue chutes deployed and weapons dropped. I admit that for some reason one of the balloons vanished when I came close to it, literally a second after weapons release, but I wonder whether I hit it with my belly or something? I don\'t see any other reason for it to just go \'poof\'.

Because of the size of the targets, you can just do close-range drops of dummy Modular Missiles with stabiliser fins. That\'s all it takes. I had 8 onboard - one spare for misdrops, which I ended up dumping because I was lucky enough not to miss.

One question, how did you get the carrier out there? Does it have an attach node somewhere? I\'d love to be able to deploy my own, in fact, I think quite a few people would appreciate perhaps a version of this with attach nodes in various places (end of runway, turret station, etc).

Definitely got a plane that can do it now - added a few more wings to my original design and now it\'s way more stable. Shame I suck at precision landings. : I\'ve noticed that actually ramming the balloons doesn\'t work - I die when I crash into them, but occasionally they\'ll just explode when I get near as Volt said. What\'s the deal there? Of course, if I\'m getting close enough to ram them, I\'m screwing up because I should be using the railguns.

Here is my entry, I may try again at some point as the (failed) run previous to this one I was at about 2 mins after destroying all the balloons but banked too quickly and lost control of the plane, by the time I recovered I was already too close to the ocean. Shame, I think I would have made that one in about 3.20.

Anyways, here is my entry. A video too! I got 3.52 all landed safe and sound

I only use stock parts, so I have no guns.

So I did loops around the balloons instead. And screwed up the landing a few times before finally getting it right.
