Add "Oxygen Present" (yes/no) indicator to map display for planets

Recommended Posts

The map display has a handy info panel when you focus on a planet. It has "Atmosphere Present" (yes/no), and if the answer is yes, it provides the height and surface pressure of the atmosphere.

Would be nice if it also had an indicator whether the atmosphere is oxygenated. Handy for two reasons:

  • Serves as a useful indicator to new players that something's up (e.g. how would they discover that Laythe has oxygen, if they didn't read about it in the forums or the wiki?)
  • Makes it easy to keep track of things in mods. For example, I'm playing through New Horizons mod right now, and there are a lot of new worlds with atmospheres, and it's hard to keep mental track of which ones are oxygenated. I have to go open the .cfg file to figure it out.

Whether an atmosphere has oxygen or not is pretty important, right up there with height and pressure. Seems like a simple and useful thing to add.

I would wait and see what happens with the KSPedia system coming in 1.1. We've heard a lot about it and yet have heard really nothing about it.

That's a good point, and if the UI design is such that KSPedia effectively replaces the current info panels, so much the better. :)

However they slice it... all I'm sayin' is, wherever the game displays a bunch of info about a planet's atmosphere, "is it oxygenated" should be one of the pieces of information included. Which it currently isn't.
