Yes, you can use any images to make skyboxes. Try downloading TextureReplacer, then looking at the labels on the images in the 'Default' folder. There should be six images saying things like 'GalaxyTex_...'. Try looking around the TextureReplacer threads (or try the older UniverseReplacer one) for that exact image.

Universe Replacer is two years out of date. Use TextureReplacer instead, as Dfthu said.
