[PART, 1.0.2] Anatid Robotics / MuMech - MechJeb - Autopilot - Historical thread

Has there been any fix/indication of the cause of the rendezvous auto-pilot being terrible? I launch to rendezvous in the right orbital plane and altitude. I get into space maybe 0.5 degrees out. I switch to rendezvous autopilot. Rendezvous autopilot spends a half hour trying to match planes with the target. When it does, the target is now long gone. It sets up a climb to transfer 100km->215km->100km. It gets an intercept - and then starts lagging like crazy. It says it will start match velocities with the target... in 68 years, 68 days... I disable that, and let the crafts come closer together. Then I reengage autopilot, and it needs to make more adjustments. At this point, I've nearly doubled the Delta-V I had planned to spend in space. Often, the readjustments are too much, and it starts swinging like crazy trying to get a perfect target approach - and the result is that it slams through the target like a battering ram. Reload quicksave. Rinse and repeat.

I think the real issue is that despite its name the Rendezvous Autopilot is supposed to be used as s teaching tool, not an actual autopilot.

Its made to show you the maneuver steps inorder to make a good rendezvous, then switch over to using just the maneuver planer.

So can we PLEASE find a way to put the Mechjeb tab BACK into the middle of the right edge of the screen? It's in the way of the resource tab.

Seriously...this has been said so many times...MJ devs are aware of it...let it alone for a bit.

These mod devs work for free to bring us these mods, pestering them over and over about the same LITTLE issues is not a good way to get changes made to a mod

Have a little respect, and more importantly have a little gratitude....after all, you could have NO mechjeb at all instead of one where the button is a bit out of place......

Sorry for slam post...but I have personaly seen behavior like this tear modders games apart in the past....would hate to see that happen to KSP...

For me it worked flawlessly in 2.0.7, but since installing 2.0.8.66 it overshoots nodes warping too fast, has to do several burns to do a rendezvous, where it used to get it in one shot, and landing autopilot seems borked as well, tho I've only tried it once since the update so don't have many details.

So can we PLEASE find a way to put the Mechjeb tab BACK into the middle of the right edge of the screen? It's in the way of the resource tab.

The position of the tab is set in line 100 of MechJebModuleMenu.cs in the source:

if (GUI.Button(new Rect((-Screen.height / 4 - 50), Screen.width - 25 - (200 * windowProgr), 100, 25), (windowStat == WindowStat.HIDDEN) ? "/\\ MechJeb /\\" : "\\/ MechJeb \\/"))

Shouldn't be too hard for you to change it and recompile the project; this is permitted under the project's GPL license. Be cautious, as the positions of the other windows may be affected.

Sorry, I haven't been following the thread 100% and I'm not an expert on mods.

Sorry, I had just looked at the thread and saw your latest request, but not the pages and pages of obnoxious requests prior to this:

Okay, this is pissing me off
I want the damn tab in the middle of the right edge of the screen
It's almost as if this release was intended to annoy
Give me the option to move it, dang it!
Still complaining about the tab's position.
Worst change ever

This is hardly the way to actually request assistance. The mod devs probably are working on one machine with one monitor like most of us. They don't have the resources to do extensive testing for various configurations. Your complaint would have been better phrased as a polite bug report, rather than a demand for change.

The source code for the mod is freely available and it is licensed to permit you to change it at your pleasure. There are tutorials around the site for how to compile and test plug-ins. You could try to do it yourself, or you could wait for the devs to work on it. But please stop abusing them. This is the best mod out there for the game, which is saying quite a bit, since there are many many very high quality mods here.

I would like the ability to drag the main window around like the others. I like to leave my Resources up, and if I have more than two MechJeb overlaps. It's mildly annoying.

Haven't actually been to space lately, but I'm really liking the new way the rest of the mod works. The throttle control being able to regulate and prevent me from flaming out my jets, etc. Very cool.

You haven't been following the thread? You post almost daily whining about a minor issue that only affects people with certain resolutions. At one point you accused them of *intending* to mess things up, presumably just for you since it isn't happening on most people's machines and presumably isnt happening on the dev's.

So what numbers do we change to lower the button?? And what do we use to recompile?

I need help guys, With the newest version 2.0 how exactly can i do this automated lander(glider)?

It uses the autom8 scripting as seen here

I think you have my problem... You see, Autom8 is currently not part of MJ2 so you can't use that script of yours.

So R4mon... any updates on when we can see MechJeb2's awesome Autom8 scripting interface (both me and Rich from the Telemachus plugin would really love to see this again). Mechjeb2 is incredibly powerful but we (meaning Rich) needs a simpler way of interfacing with external apps.

Have to say I wasn't impressed with MJ2 at the start... now that I can ditch the transparent menus though it's 100000x better for me (messed with my partial colour blindness). In fact it is getting closer to how the real AGC worked it seems.

And it still does not work...

Hey everyone, i just bought KSP hours ago. But allready have seen this nice addon on a LP. So i wanted to install the MechJeb2 2.0.8.0 on my KSP 0.20.2

However, reading the last pages of this thread gives me two ways of installing this mod properly. But none of them works.

I have tried to extract the folder into the gamedata folder. So the path is: C:\Program Files\KSP_win\GameData\MechJeb2 (this folder then includes the "Plugins" and "Parts" and the and the data so on). I started the game, built a rocket, installed the AR202, went to launch, an NO Mechjeb window or sidebar.

The other method said: drag the .dll into the Plugins folder - the point on that: on stock i dont have the Plugins folder in my KSP_win (neigher i have the PuginData and the Patcher_Data folders, nor the Patcher.exe as it is shown on the installation guide of V 1.9.8) - and drag the data from the MechjebParts into the Parts folder.

The very confusing thing is, that no matter there i put the Parts, the AR202 can be installed, as if it doesn't really matter there i place it. But the MechJeb window ingame does not appear...

So can anybody tell me what i am missing? Would be very nice.

MJ2 works fine on windows KSP 20.2 here. Don't you get the little tab at the top of the right side of your screen? You need to click that to get the sidebar.

I have noticed that another plugin, Haystack, doesn't seem to appear sometimes when I load KSP. Maybe that is what is happening to you. I have KSP setup in Gamedata like you posted and not had a problem though (other than sometime it messes up with the nodes).

Using MechJeb2-2.0.8.0 and running KSP 0.20.2.186

Found that when using the ascent autopilot that regardless of what I put in for the inclination angle Jeb seems to be taking me on a 0/360 polar orbit every time.

Not sure if this could be a mod conflict or what as I did also install Kerbal Engineer prior to the latest. (but thats just an info tool?)

OK, so. I had the same problem as a few people in this topic; the one where Mechjeb wouldn't show up at all except for the AR-202 unit. Now, I'm going to go ahead and assume all of us with this problem are on Windows 8. Microsoft pulled yet another dick move w/ W8, that being that all the files on your hard drive belong not to you, the user, but to the Trusted Installer user. And because Microsoft hates DLLs, this system is blocking KSP's access to the MechJeb2.dll file. I used the take ownership ability on the folder (link here: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/ ) and then MechJeb (and a whole bunch of other mods) started working perfectly, regardless of install location.

Hope I've helped someone!

That's odd. I run windows 8, KSP 0.20.2, and mechjeb2, never had an issue. Drag folder to GameData and good to go.

@TCGM, are you not logged into your computer as an admin? also make sure you install in 'Program Files (x86)' not 'Program Files'

change the m/s sensitivity on your maneuver node window (little box bottm right) to stop it being zero. I choose 0.1. then MJ will be able to get within that sensitivity as 0 is not possible so it takes forever and uses all your fuel.

guess what...

it seems that the game just needed a little warmup... frustrated of the 2 hours of trying to install this mod i just played it vanilla for 5 hours this night (gmt+1).

after waking up and reading the answers on my post i decided to just extract the mechjeb data again into the GameData folder (i extracted all the files again outside of c:\ onto my data-hd).

clicking into the KSP_win folder left short a confused staring in my face. IT WAS ALL THERE! you may remember from the brackets that i missed the "Plugins" folder and others from stock. now they are there...

i also changed the access rights on the .dll . i dont really know if it should make a difference due i only have one access which has all rights.

and now finally i went ingame, but the AR202 onto a rocket and BAM: MechJeb just popped up. very nice.

allthough it crashed my rocket which i took to an orbit by hand i think it works well right now. ^^

for the history: MechJeb2 2.0.8.0 is working on my KSP 0.20.2 on Win7 64bit.

Thx for the help.

It's usually on 0.5m/s but perhaps it's because I'm delivering heavy parts with an efficient (weak) rocket. Good idea, I'll ramp it up to 5m/s and see if it can at least get me close enough to let the docking autopilot take over, even if that then takes ages, at least it can do it without my supervision.
