Is it possible to delete stock parts?

Recommended Posts

I really like the Kw rocketry mod. The look, feel, and performance of the kw engines and fuel tanks is much better than the stock counterparts. But my PC is on the lower end and I don't have enough ram to have so many parts. Is it possible to delete most of the stock engines and fuel tanks? If so what are steps to do so? Would this even cut down on my ram use?

Thanks for the suggestions!:)

Best bet is to move them into a different folder ( outside of GameData ), that way you can shuffle parts you're missing back in again. I have vague memories of the game getting confused if you delete *every* part, but only modders are going to do that anyway.

If you have a lot of other parts mods, check and make sure they do not rely on, and use the stock textures/models...Quite a few do, so if you delete stock parts those mods rely on, well, the new, mod parts wont work, or show up properly... Other wise, yes, you can delete Squad parts pretty much to your hearts content...IIRC, in 0.25 or 0.90, I actually deleted the WHOLE Squad folder...Ran into issues with missing IVAs, sounds, and modded parts issues (because they probably relied on stock parts files)...

Don´t forget to backup whatever you´re gonna delete if you want to avoid clean reinstalls. Great way to reduce RAM is to delete IVA´s if you don´t use them. Otherwise I wouls suggest installing ATM (If you dan´t have it already) and try to run game in OpenGL mode. Effect varies from user to user, to some it´s unusable, to other it saves RAM and boost FPS ingame. Definitelly worth trying. As other mentioned above, deleting squad parts may affect game in unexpected ways, as many advanced mods use stock part textures to reduce RAM usage, so don´t get too wild :-)
