Space engineers planet hype

I've been considering buying space engineers, is it fun? How does space travel in it work? Do you have orbits, momentum which doesn't go away? Thanks!

In the sense of orbital mechanics, it's not like KSP at all.

as well as that there are intertia dampeners which slow you down. you can disable them and infinitely glide in a certain direction. (until you hit an asteroid)

Currently there are no planets so there can't be orbital mechanics.

Interesting, it's nice that you can disable it.

Is it fun?!? Hell yeah it is! You can build giant star cruisers and battle stations on (or inside of) asteroids, and make star fighters and shuttles and stuff. You can set up giant mining stations on asteroids to rob nature of its treasures, and build guided missiles (I built a kamikaze ship one time) and have big ship to ship battles with other people! It's definitely worth $20 if you like building cool starships in the style of Minecraft.

I wonder der if anyone has made a Space Engineers server for KSP fans...

Well, it sounds good. I think I'll try it. :)

It's a great game--my explanation for the really dense asteroids is that it takes place in the rings of Saturn.

The inertial dampeners don't apply a fantom force, they just fire the retro thrusters to reduce your relative velocity to the asteroids/ non moving ships. So inertial dampeners aren't handwavium technobabble indused slower-downers. They are just some software

Actually, when using dampeners thrusters apply magically 10x more thrust, so it is kinda phantom forces.

Nope. That was tweaked in last week's update. Large ships now only have a 1x thrust multiplier when the dampeners are active. Small ships had their multiplier reduced from 10x to 5x (assuming they also had a 10x multiplier).

Also, planets are going to be awesome. I can't wait to build a huge ship and then crash it into one like they do in many movies (like the Enterprise crash in Star Trek Generations, or the cruiser crash in Star Wars Episode III).

Have they said anything yet about normal blocks being affected by planetary gravity? I assume they will be. Anyway, I am looking forward to this. I am interested to see how atmospheric entry and exit works. I assume aerodynamics are still outside the scope of the game, but I would like some atmospheric effects for the eye candy.
