Time in 3 dimensions

:D This was a fun thought

I\'ve been trying to imagine experiencing life with 3 time-dimensions.

That is, instead of just being able to go forward/backward through time (assuming you could time travel as such), you instead could go forward/backward/left/right/up/down through time

After struggling with that concept I wondered how different it would be having inversed time/spacial dimensions.

i.e. 1 spacial dimension, 3 time-dimensions.

These are my most mind-provoking thoughts I\'ve come up with recently.

Nothing I\'ve thought of has posed such a struggle to comprehend before lol

I\'m not really sure if this is possible. Even theoretically.

Time is a touchy definition. The latest I\'ve heard/come across, and one I\'ve accepted the most, is that time is the flow of the energy gradient/flow of entropy.

I\'m not really sure how entropy would work in 3 dimensions of time.

Perhaps it wouldn\'t. After all, science is meant to describe the universe as we see it. By changing the universe as I mentioned above, terms like entropy might not even apply.

THIS IS FUN

The only way I figure time travel could be possible would be if there was a parallel time stream exactly the same as ours, but that could be changed without creating any paradoxes. For example, if it was all one time stream you could go back in time and kill your parents, thus resulting in an endless paradox, whereas in a separate time stream you\'d kill your parents and only that time stream\'s you would cease to exist.

I prefer to think that time flows like a river. It flows in a line, and endlessly downward, but if we time travel, we go in a straight line. That way, we can\'t interfere with things at our level, i.e. above or below the events. Only observer.

I always think of time as the 4th dimension, a river would be a 5th dimension and basically the same as alternate timelines. its a 5th because each universe exists at a different advancement along the stream. Good analogy, btw.

Perhaps we live in the timeline where nobody discovers time travel... that\'d be sad.

I also like to think about what speed of light travel would look like...

and how day/night cycles would look on planets with weird orbits/spins... (might make a thread for this)

time actually isn\'t like a river, it requires space to exist, and space requires time to exist too
