Does KSP model buoyancy in air?

Recommended Posts

You know that for all purposes in KSP that's near 0? And it adds another layer of physical simulation during lift off?

Btw a "limited" version of this is already in place: in the form of different I_specific. Buoyancy is nothing but a less exact wording for "density". In air the main effect is that due to the pressure difference (which is an effect of the density) a better description of the specific impulse and the account of atmopsheric pressure is given at wikipedia

So, no lighter than air craft then maybe never? Seems to be the one thing we are missing. Its not going to kill me if we never have that but it does seem to be something that should probably be there. Would be most useful in the earlier stages of flight. I can imagine the possibilities that might open up with that addition. :)

There are mods that simulate blimps it by making the craft hover. But it's not a true mechanic, it's a 'fakery' for your benefit.

Early stages of flight nothing... I want the Venus cloud cities over Eve :P

Well, its true it would be useful further down the line but its importance in early flight historically isnt being represented. Of course, it seems we can do much more in rocketry than in early flight in Kerbal which isnt historically accurate either. So it doesnt really matter all that much in the big picture. It would open up some new game play possibilities though.
