Crossfeed

Hi,

can anybody tell me how crossfeed works in detail?

I've tried the following and found:

[*]External tank on radial decoupler, jet engine on plane. External tank gets emptied, before internal. This is as expected.
[*]External tank on radial decoupler, rocket engine on plane. External tank doesn't get touched. Hm, as expected. The crossfeed button does nothing -> Confusing.
[*]In line: Rocket engine, tank, decouple, rocket engine, tank, cockpit. Not an unusual design. If I enable crossfeed on the inline decoupler, then I can draw fuel through the rocket engine to the other stage. -> Very, very confusing.

To keep the crossfeed rules as they were before, rocket engines still don't (BY DEFAULT) draw via surface attach links. However, there is a setting in Physics.cfg you can change ( stack_PriUsesSurf ). Set it to True and things using STACK_PRIORITY_SEARCH (i.e. rocket engines) will indeed crossfeed.

I get this, because it'd make fuel lines mostly obsolete and the science tree would need rebalancing, because they come pretty late.

But at first I was pretty confused that the "crossfeed" button did nothing on radial decouplers, but worked for inline decouplers.

Oh, it doesn't do nothing. Try feeding a jet from a radial tank behind a no-crossfeed decoupler :P

It's mostly still accurate, but the revised rules for airbreathing engines are not reflected there. Sadly the OP is no longer active on the forum and hasn't updated it.
