VincentMcConnell
I personally have serious doubts about the Chinese space program, and in order to end an off-topic conversation in another thread, I\'ve started up this one. For the record ,I don\'t believe every spaceflight is fake, but I really do believe, from a scientific stand-point, that if a country wants to convince me they flew in space, they\'re going to have to give evidence. You may be thinking: Well Shenzhou 5 showed their 'Taikonauts'(?) in free-fall in the cabin-footage. Well, technically correct, but that doesn\'t mean it was in space. Here, take a look at this: Go ahead and get yourself a stop watch. Every time something starts floating, start the clock. When the footage cuts away, stop the clock. Notice that they never show anything floating for more than 30 seconds at a time? That\'s suspicious....This is the first thing that comes to mind when someone only floats for thirty seconds! As for the Shenzhou 7 spacewalk, we can discuss that through this thread. The evidence -- to me -- seems to suggest that spacewalk was a phony. Videos purporting that the spacewalk was faked were blocked in China on youtube!

Kryten
Vincent, why did you compare SpaceX not having a crewed spacecraft after 5 years of development to China supposedly not having a crewed spacecraft after 10+ years of development, despite the ridiculous gulf in funding, unless you don\'t know what you\'re talking about? And why do you ignore the fact that the US and USSR both had men in space ~5 years after starting their programs?EDIT: The stuff in the video is easy enough to counter; he\'s stuck in a tiny capsule covered with a controls and equipment that keep him alive; he\'s not going to let stuff float around. Feragorn
At 1:30 in the top video, a clear shot of the solar panels on the SM of the Shenzhou spacecraft is shown. The curvature of the earth is clearly seen, and it\'s identical to all other videos shown of spacecraft in orbit. There\'s your evidence that it\'s real. And you\'re actually telling us that since nothing floated in the spacecraft for more than thirty seconds it was filmed on a vomit comet?You\'re sure? The Chinese don\'t have a reduced gravity plane as a trainer from what I\'ve found. They\'d have to get one, and then put a mockup of a Shenzhou reentry module inside, strap the taikonaut in, and then film that. Then they\'d have to fake the views of the earth out the window for the entire time the window is in view. And they\'d need to fake that shot I talked about in my first paragraph. So it can\'t be 'identical' to all others... And fake Earth shots is not hard. All you then have to do is use a green background in a studio with an SM mockup. Then put the satellite imagery of the Earth on the green and it looks like the SM is over the Earth. I bet I could do it myself, actually. The Chinese don\'t have a reduced gravity plane as a trainer from what I\'ve found. And they\'d need to fake that shot I talked about in my first paragraph. They don\'t tell you they have a parabolic plane. Do you think China is going to advertise the fact that they have a plane that could be used to fake space footage? They\'re not stupid... The Earth wasn\'t in view very long. In fact, the whole video could easily have been shot in a mock-up. Have you seen Apollo 13? That looks pretty close. When we\'re talking about one minute of footage in space, that\'s easy to fake. If China released hundreds of hours of video, everything was televised and 15,000 photos like Apollo, THAT\'S impossible to fake.
sal_vager
Okay guys, intelligent discussion is what we are all looking for here, the moment this thread degenerates they’ll be a squad of Mods in here looking to close the doors. Also, Shenzhou 7 passed near the ISS. And why do you ignore the fact that the US and USSR both had men in space ~5 years after starting their programs?SpaceX has help from NASA and is a private company that doesn\'t need to pay attention to politics or tax-funding. The US and USSR had a RACE. A HUGE drive to put man in space. The space race was everything in the sixties. Even IF the Chinese missions were real, it\'s too little, to late. Why won\'t they televise anything? Why won\'t they show much footage? This is the same kind of secrecy the communists keep using and it makes me think they have something to hide. I plan on putting a video together on Shenzhou 5. I\'m currently going over Chinese government post-flight notes of that mission. So far I\'ve found a few interesting things.EDIT: The stuff in the video is easy enough to counter; he\'s stuck in a tiny capsule covered with a controls and equipment that keep him alive; he\'s not going to let stuff float around. The Apollo astronauts had no problem letting things float around for minutes at a time... They even did back flips and front flips in the spacecraft!

Just because an orbital module was in space doesn\'t mean anybody was aboard. I am thinking it was possible that China didn\'t have a man-rated spacecraft but they wanted to get in on this space stuff.Here\'s my promise to you. If China shows us footage of their Taikonauts in zero-g for more than 30 seconds to a minute on their upcoming flight, I will believe it\'s real. Capt'n Skunky
Yup, I am going to nip this one in the bud.Vincent, there are many dozens of sites on the Internet that will be happy to entertain your wacky theories, this isn\'t one of them.Capt\'n SkunkyKSP Community Manager
