Bearing help

Recommended Posts

Okay I had a quick look...

Couple of points in general - if you download the no-offset limits mod you can dramatically reduce your part count.

The issue you're running into with both your bearings is you've got solid support at the base. But there're no wheels to hold it in place above the engines. If you added some support in that way, you'd get a stable solid bearing. I don't have screenshots of anything that compact... But you'd also find a bunch of help in the turboshaft thread.

They seem like tidy bearings... If you're looking to fly with them, you'll (probably) be unable to generate enough torque using such a tight layout. The other thing you want to have happen, is you want the blades to have space to expand. The more they can "float" away from what they're attached to, the more torque you are generating.

As an example of my approach... Yes it's a mess. I was trying to get a driveshaft working to get the tail rotor working. However, the 8 Panthers in reheat will lift the craft from the ground. The main mast is contained within structural fuselages, just for giggles. But you can see that either side of where the thrust is applied there are wheels to hold it in place.

Hope that helps... If you want a craft file, just send me a pm.

So, I should attach wheels to the bottom of the central shaft? I didn't know that. I'll go give it a try.

Yes that too.

If we work with your design now, you need wheels around the top of the shaft... eh let me add them and show you a picture instead...

So I just added four wheels to the bottom, and used no offset limit to move them up. There's still wobble, but you would also need to fix the wobble down at the bottom. Again add  wheels there to hold it in place.

You can simplify some bearings by using cargo bays too.

Edit:

Okay I took your Turbine of Doom, and very crudely made some adjustments. You'll need to tweak it... But some pics to show you what I mean, and a dl link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ljfzc11hpminxeh/Turbine%20of%20doooom%20V_FN.craft?dl=0
