Garbonzo
Hey guys. My buddy here is interested in KSP, but he's having some problems. A couple days ago he got a new gaming computer so he could play KSP. I helped him with the install and it went great. Until it opened, and it was running at 4 FPS. We toggles some options, V-sync, rendering, graphics, windowed mode, etc. etc. It eased up a little bit, but the game was still completely unplayable. His new computer has a 8GB of RAM on it, and it should be able to handle KSP. Is there something we need to do first before this computer is ready to handle KSP? Thanks! Norpo
A little more information would help a bit. What's the computers CPU like? That's usually considered the most limiting factor in KSP performance. Other than that, I don't know much else to do other than lower the settings a bit more; sorry. Usually this would be enough reason to stop here with any kind of support Anyway.. im in a good mood today Spoiler are those lags already in main menu, at KSC-view, or in space? So is there any time it runs fine? Does the editor (VAB) lag as well? => check the kerbals on the ground Lowering the setting in most cases will just help if the GPU is to weak. when the lag is an overall problem, it might even not be the cpu. You could also check the perfmon of windows (i just assume he uses win) to check for problems. Also it has been said before, that windows 10 has known issues due to using dx12 for KSP. so you might want to start your ksp.exe with parameter "-force-d3d9" or "-force-d3d11". "-nolog" parameter might help with slow disks to reduce disk I/O of logs. Beside that - just wondering - why is he not asking on his own. if forum registration is to complicated he shouldnt use a PC at all *joking* Edited December 15, 2015 by Speadge
Willbl3pic
Also, unless your friend runs linux like me or uses the (unsupported) 64 bit hack, then KSP is 32 bit and can only use 3.5GB of RAM, no more. 8GB will usually only help if you have more applications open. sal_vager
Hi @Garbonzo, can you please get the output_log.txt from the KSP_Data folder and the dxdiag hardware report from your friends computer and upload them to a file host such as dropbox. We need those to know more about what's going on.
maceemiller
If its a brand new computer id hit the updates. Ive just bought myself a new laptop, installed win 7 and tried playing my KSP save from my old machine and it was terribly jerky and nigh on unplayable. After a few visits to the Windows update center my KSP plays perfectly. Just an idea.
