KSP not opening properly

Recommended Posts

When I click on KSP to play it, it opens into a tiny window in which you can barely see the anything. But now I pressed on the shortcut for fullscreen mode hoping to fix it but it only made it so whenever I open KSP, it is not responding and I have to close it. I also can't get it out of fullscreen. How can I fix it?

I am playing KSP 1.0.5 (Windows player).

Hi WY, please delete the settings.cfg file in the Kerbal Space Program folder then start KSP by using the KSP.exe file.

But now, It opens into a tiny window. How can I get a screenshot into a post, so I could show you what happened because it won't let m paste one in.

If you can delete the settings.cfg, it should default to a higher resolution. Or go into the settings.cfg with a plain text editor (like notepad) and look for:

SCREEN_RESOLUTION_WIDTH = 1920
SCREEN_RESOLUTION_HEIGHT = 1080

You can edit them to match the resolution of your screen.

To answer your question about screenshots, press F1. KSP will put a picture into the KSP/Screenshots folder. You can then upload that to somewhere like imgur.com (no account required) and paste the link here.

If you're on PC, trying pressing alt+enter next time you load the game up. That should switch in and out of full screen.

I knew that but pressing that just makes the problem worse.

think it doesnt help if u just describe what u see.

Try the following:

- press "PRINT"-key with the problem on screen.
- go to imgur.com, click "upload image" on the top bar and use the ctrl+v option (just press ctrl+v after u made a screenshot with the "PRINT"-key)
- when it uploaded your picture, copy the adress to it on imgur into a post. To do this use the "insert other media" option in the forums text editor on the bottom right.

hope that works ; it sounds more complicated than it is ;)

well, thats really weird.. doesnt look as iof the game is loading. just like an error during load.

is there any change in the taskmanager about the cpu / memory this task is using? might be a compatibility error that the game cant be run on your system?

so please check taskmanager ehile the screen is there and tell us about your PC-specs.
did you buy the game via steam?

and.. are you just clicking on "launcher" on your desktop? is that a llink to the KSP.exe? I doupt, so could you just try to start KSP.exe from the install directory?

Since I'm really lazy, I've just taken a screenshot of my PC-specs. Also the memory goes really high on the graph of the task manager and stays really high; the CPU is about the same as when KSP wasn't open, just a little bit higher.I think that should be normal. I bought ksp from its website and I didn't click on the launcher to play since the 'play' button is greyed out. This might be important, I've had this problem before and after a while(about a month) it fixes itself and I can play. How can I fix it faster? Although I've worded everything horribly, hopefully you know what I mean.

The pic doesn't tell us very much unfortunately WY, a dxdiag hardware report would be much more useful, dxdiag can be run from the start menu by typing it in.

The launcher will work to start KSP, just don't click on update, and you can use the launcher to set KSP's graphics settings, though deleting the settings.cfg should have reset them and you should have seen KSP start in a reasonable sized window after that.

It's possible you have a bad registry entry for KSP that is setting the graphics, and if you're starting KSP by a shortcut it won't find the settings.cfg, so won't be reset.

You could try a program such as ccleaner to find and remove the KSP registry entries, this is safe to do as they only store the screen size and mode.

Also make sure your graphics driver is up to date, and that your desktop is at least 1280 x 720 in size.
