SAS

Recommended Posts

SAS still works, but it's not the reaction wheels themselves that provide control. To get SAS, you either need to have a pilot, or else you need to have an SAS-capable probe core (meaning OKTO or better; the Stayputnik doesn't have SAS).

Higher level pilots (or probe cores) unlock higher level SAS functions, such as "hold prograde" etc.

In practical terms, what this means (assuming that flying without any SAS is an unbearable chore) is:

  • until you unlock the OKTO, always have a pilot on board
  • after you unlock the OKTO, always have an OKTO-or-better probe core on board if you don't want to have to carry a pilot
