AN and DN nodes for Earth (in real solar system)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I am in a low parking Orbit @ earth (300km) with an inclination of 6° or so.

I wanna raise this to 350km with an inclination of 0

How do i do this? Is there any way to see the AN and DN for earth ?

Engineering van show me the current inclination, but not the post burn one. Mechjeb can plan manoeuvres To circulize, set inclination To x, or raise apogee. But not at the same time. And most efficiënt way would be to rais AP at the DN to 3500km, then raise PE to 3500km and het inclination To 0 at the same time at AP.

Any tips?

Though I don't think you can display the AN and DN in map view, I think KER can show you the argument of ascending/descending nodes, ie: their position, though I'm not sure if this corresponds to their longitude centered on 0º or something else.

Kerbal Engineer can show you the time to equatorial AN / DN. Thats usually enough to do an appropriate inclination correction burn. If you want to optimize it, you can then just put a maneuver node on the timestamp and pull your inclination right. Kerbal Engineer will then show you when to start burning.

But how do I know if I pulled my inclination 'right' ?
Neither the stock game, nor Engineer can tell me if my post burn inclination is 0. Thats my whole point. I can estimate by looking at it, but you really can't see the difference between a 0dg or 1dg inclination.

Estimate it and then stop burning when KER comes close to 0° with the above used technique of putting a maneuver node according to KER's Time to AN/DN.

Another option would be to set a vessel into 0° inclined orbit with HyperEdit to use as reference.

If you're trying to combine a circularization burn with an inclination change you should:

1. Create the apogee change maneuver in MJ maneuver planner at the AN or DN.

2. Execute the manuever. Create a circularization maneuver at the new apogee (which will be the DN or AN).

3. Open the maneuver node editor in MJ and note the three component m/s changes (prograde, normal, radial)

4. Create the inclination change maneuver in MJ maneuver planner.

5. Open the maneuver node editor in MJ and switch to the inclination maneuver and note *its* changes.

6. Sum the prograde terms from the two maneuvers and note the result. Do the same for normal and radial.

7. Delete the inclination change maneuver.

8. Apply the sums to the circularization maneuver.

9. Execute.

Thanks!

Thats pretty much what I ended up doing. Except for the fact that my beginning orbit wasnt circular (it was like 300x1.000km), so I had to burn somewhere further then the DN to get my new AP up at exactly the AN. So what I did was:

1. Let mechjeb set an AP raise manouvre at the DN to 3500

2. Let mechjeb plan any manouvre at the AN.

3. Check if the AP after the first manouvre (orange AP) is at the second node (the purple manouvre).

4. Move the first planned manouvre node arround so the orange AP gets closer to where the new AN would be.

5. Clear the purple node, start again at step2, repeat untill the node created by mechjeb is at exactly the orange AP.

6. Execute the orange node.

7. Raise PE and Latitude to 0 at new AP.

Just wrote it down here, for if anyone in the future might need it.
