After this I now remember how cool it feels to land somewhere green like you. I remember what I felt like when I landed on either mun or minmus. So what are your experiences with this? I want you to share them. (Also I encountered the sand castle Easter egg while exiting)

I'll never forget my first time rescuing a Kerbal from the Mun, My lander ended up on a very steep side slope after descent and rolled all the way down it, tearing off several RCS nozzles and some solar panels as well as one of the legs. When it finally came to a rest at the bottom I EVA'd Jeb and tried to get my bearings, I realized I was pretty damn far off course and the Kerbal I was here to rescue might now be out of my reach for my barely functioning lander (I wasn't even sure it would ever stand upright again, let alone make orbit.) So...Jeb started hoofing it.

As I soared across the grey, crater pocked landscape milking my EVA pack for all it was worth I began to come near to my destination and soaring over the lip of a particularly large crater I finally sighted the command pod with the stranded Kerbal. My pack was almost completely out of fuel and I boarded the pod with Jeb to recharge his pack, as he and his new friend sat in the pod collecting themselves for the long perilous journey on foot back to the escape vehicle which had no guarantee of working...I stared out the view port across the lonely lunar surface, admiring the stars and thinking about what a long, long way we were from home.

And I thought to myself... "What an amazing game this is."

Spoiler

Both Kerbals did eventually make it home, After making the trip with both of them back to the landing site (I abandoned the command pod despite the fact that I was supposed to rescue that as well.) I was able to prop the lander up on a ridge and max the throttle, it scraped along the ground for an agonizing few seconds before finally taking to the air and limping back to orbit, where it met up with it's parent ship and made a successful though hair raising docking procedure due to it's missing and now asymmetrical RCS system. Finally the craft and it's two Kerbalnauts limped their way home to Kerbin to be welcomed as heroes! ...I never did go back for that Command Pod.

My first landing on the mun was quite like this. I then sent a rescue mission that landed fine but far from whoever was stranded (I don't remember their name). But I had wheels on this rescue pod so I rolled the 20ish kilometers and successfully made it back to Kerbin. I have yet to get good at landing at a specific place on purpose.
