MPL questions

How has this changed in 1.0.5?  It does not seem to give data for science already completed

I don't think it ever did.  That's why you gave it science results and never returned them until they'd been processed.

In older versions, the MPL would add to the % of the science that could be transmitted instead of having to be lugged to the surface and recovered.

Since the change to data, a single lab can get data from each unique experiment exactly once, no matter how many different copies of it you have or what the science recovery value is.

A temperature scan from LKO can be processed in lab A for data.   If you take a second temperature scan from LKO, then lab A cannot get data from it because it already got data from that.  A temperature scan from some other biome will give new data, and processing the same experiment in a sequence of different laboratories will give new data to each of the labs.

This functionality was removed. For the better in my opinion since the new MPL mechanics actually put some relevance to the passage of time, and there's not nearly enough things in game that actually care about time, the only other things that depend on time are ISRU and contract expiry.

I'm kind of a veteran of this game and still had to google what "MPL" is. People, don't use acronyms unless they're super obvious...

I'm looking at this thread just to figure out what MPL means, too.

I'm guessing it's the Mobile Processing Lab?

Ya I see now that the data is less then it used to be I am still getting data from experments that have already been turned in just not as much.  I was confused because some expermintes on kerbin gave 0 data for processing.

This is because the amount of science data the lab gives is based off of where it is located when the experiment results are processed. You get a bonus for being in Mun orbit, and an even bigger bonus of being landed on the Mun. You actually get a penalty for running experiments through the lab while on Kerbin.
For any other questions on the "MPL" see @Snark's very informative post here.

The Lab confuses me. I hardly use it since it changed. I would much more prefer to be able to conduct experiments in the Lab myself. With widgets and knobs and all of that minigame stuff.

You throw the experiment inside, poke and shake it for a while and science comes out based on how well (or random) you conducted the experiment.

I'd like to see crew salaries and space hotel bills for the tourists too.  (eg; 2-3 week stay at Minmus Slopes Ski Resort Base for $1000 per day plus an optional day trip to Highlands Peak Lookout for an extra $1500)

Would you have to reimburse them when they have to wait a few months in an uncontrolled Minmus 'station' consisting of a lander can + heatshield + chutes?

Just until a 'real' mission passes by and can bump them to a Kerbin suborbital trajectory.

Or would that be 'extended bonus stay in authentic astronaut hostel with spectacular view'?

Seriously, I'm all for crew saleries. But tourists should only pay up to a certain amount, to discourage sending a mk3 crew storage with minimum power to Minmus and use it as a money tap.

PS, a ski resort on Minmus is a bad idea, since skiing is powered by gravity, you'll never get up to speed there. My apologies. *facepalm* rocket skis. Thank you KSK

Yeah, in that example, it would be minimum 2 maximum 3 week stay.

Overall contract should have a time limit (4 month window say) much shorter than stock contracts.

Edit: This should probably be in a contracts thread; its getting off topic.
