OPM/Trans Keptunian/Near Future probe landing

Recommended Posts

I'd like to do a probe landing on Tekto and one on Putto using NFT parts. Doesn't need to be one launch, but that would be cool. Problem is I'm much better at designing BD Armory stuff than building a spacecraft with the required dV and resources needed for this. I'm pretty fine with using maneuver nodes, I just need help with the craft design itself. Would anyone be willing to assist me with this?

Use Kerbal Engineer Redux: shows you how much Delta V you have, also a good way to get more Delta V out of your craft is using asparagus staging.

Going to Sarnus and its moons is very similar to going to the Jool system, in terms of dV-- if you can get to the one, you can get to the other. Just takes longer to get there, is all.

Be aware that solar panels are practically useless at Sarnus and beyond, so make sure to have RTGs. If you're planning a mining/ISRU mission, bring plenty of fuel cells and a high level engineer.

Tekto is very easy to land on: low gravity, thick atmosphere. Stick a parachute on and you're good. For takeoff, male sure you have engines with good atmospheric Isp.

Also, how much experience in interplanetary travel do you have up to this point?  Have you mastered travel to and from Mun/Minmus?  I'd strongly advise practicing first.  You should get really good at shuttling between Kerbin and Mun/Minmus before you start going interplanetary.  Once you're ready to venture outside of Kerbin's SoI, you should really cut your teeth on something relatively easy (like Duna) to get the hang of interplanetary travel before you take on a deep-space mission to Sarnus and beyond.

Also, how are you on mining / ISRU?  If you haven't done that, I'd suggest setting up a Mun or Minmus mining operation to get the hang of it; going deep-interplanetary becomes much simpler if you can refuel while you're out there.

That's about it for general advice; do you have more specific questions?
