So I got my guys onto a course to a duna encounter but it wont let me put a maneuver node on my current orbit but just the next one. I have restarted the game several times and switched craft but still i can only put maneuver nodes on the purple(next) orbit. So how can I fix this?

It's a really annoying bug when it happens.  Sometimes you can work around it by zooming in really close so that the lines for your current and next orbit are farther apart on the screen, but that doesn't always work.

Another way around that sometime works is to place a manoeuver node far far away (sometime even on the "second" line) then slide it back to where you actually want it.

It does not always work either.

I've found that if your current orbit has its Pe or Ap before meeting the next SOI, you can generally place a maneuvre node after Pe/Ap even if the bug is stopping you from placing one before. And in that case it is possible to drag the node back to your ship.

If there is no Pe/Ap before the SOI change, it generally won't let you drag the node back from further away.

Another workaround (certainly not optimal): burn a given amount to prevent the SOI encounter. Place node by your ship. Turn around 180° and burn the same amount back. You now have a node that you can change, but avoid trying to drag it.
