Do Active vessles/flags signficantly add to the memory limit?

Recommended Posts

So I recently put together a pretty good modded install and started playing career. Even though I tried to keep it light on parts packs, I'm running a lot of functional mods and was using quite a bit of memory.

Not enough to crash on every load, but when I started out, I was crashing every few hours or so. (VAB reload memory leak, anyone?) But I've noticed that I'm crashing more and more, Particularly when I switch vessels or go into the loading range of some station or base. I've got quite a few active probes and and satellites (about 15), one base and one station. And maybe about 50 flags and debris.

Now, I seem to out of memory crash every single time I try to reload. Does anyone know if having more vessels active in your save can cause this?

As long as the ships/debris/flags are on rails, they don't have much of an impact but it can add up.  However, I think @Cydonian Monk's "Forgotten Space Program" shows that the limit is quite high.  A pic from this thread:

And that's just part of his stuff.  He basically merged all the save files from every game he's ever played.

I've certainly experienced more frequent crashes and longer scene change or revert times as missions add up. Try creating a new save and you should find that scene changes are almost instantaneous and crashes are rarer.

It's a shame as this can really kill a save. I avoid flags, and do everything I can to avoid debris (or delete from the tracking station even if it doesn't feel right).

It all depends on how good your computer is, I suppose.

Anecdotal evidence from just about everyone is that yes, the more flights you have running, the slower things go. Whether you can get back to your original, speedy scene changes and whatnot by deleting tracked objects (especially flags and suchlike), is another question entirely.
