Cannot switch screen to requested resolution

Hi!

I just got a new video card and now when I start KSP from Steam the game shows the loading screen and then displays an error message:

Doesn't have this problem when I launch it from the KSP launcher tho. Card is a r9 380, dual monitor. Thanks!

Hi Luke, did you used to force OpenGL or DirectX11 modes?  If so please try without those as they can cause this.

Not using either of those, KSP uses dx 9 right?

Yes, KSP uses Dx9 on Windows.

As KSP is working when you start it directly this issue is probably caused by Steam, maybe the Steam overlay, try disabling it and see if that helps, also please upload the output_log.txt from the KSP_Data folder to pastebin, thank you.

Turning off the steam overlay fixed it, thanks for the help! Any idea why this happens?

Well this issue only appears when KSP cannot access the graphics card, usually when a driver is out of date but also when another program is hogging the card, or if KSP is started with bad parameters.

I guess the Steam overlay is not working correctly, and I'd update my graphics drivers (and reboot) to see if that fixes it.

Even if your system says they are up to date they may not be.
