Needed: Perfect bearing

Recommended Posts

For my next project, i am going to attempt to make a convertible VTOL SSTO. Similar to the Binary i'm sure you've seen, but better in that it will be able to undock and redock with its body mid-flight, so you can time-warp in space and stuff.

I've made progress. I have one that can undock and redock sometimes in zero gravity. It's bearing, though quite compact and low-party, is not very tight. The i-beam i use as an axle keeps jostling around, making docking hard.

Also, my second project will be to make a walker.

So, i need a good bearing subassembly that will grab and firmly hold an i-beam or something similar, or i just need some guidance on how to make good bearings. Either one would be super useful :)

Thanks!

Nice to see some people modeling stuff after me :)!

Feel free to use my creations as inspiration :)

For bearings, you always want to be using round objects for the axle. I suggest changing that I-beam to a mk0 fuselage. Personally it usually takes a lot of trial and error to get the bearing quite right. Sometimes you want the tighter, but with more friction bearings, and sometimes looser. You always want to use the smallest landing gear though, as the suspension on the large landing gear really makes the bearings wobble.

I am also really hoping that you have infinite offset installed, as it is so helpful

Good luck though!, i am really excited to see that walker! :)

Thanks Bubbadevlin! using a mk0 fuselage made all the difference!

Progress report: things are going better than expected.

I managed to create a functioning kraken drive.

Well, you know what they say...                                   ...um, what do they say again about these things?
