Airstairs

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure what you want to say with "airstairs"? Do you mean a crew hatch? So your kerbals can enter and leave the cabin from the side? This has been suggested i think  a dozen times. If you mean something different, you should give a bit more information.

Oh and the mk1 cabin has crew hatches, but they are at the front and aft end, so mostly obstructed by other parts.

I don't think they would really add anything meaningful. In my opinion, from what I've looked up to learn what you mean, airstairs are very bulky additions to aircraft that wouldn't be very welcome in a spaceplane design. It's much simpler and lighter to use a Telus-LV Bay Mobility Enhancer, angled downwards, to provide a means of climbing up and onto a wing or directly to the hatch itself, which is my favorite method.

I think when he says Air Stairs, he means Air Stairs.

I'm not sure if they would be feasible with the way Kernels currently exit hatches.  Plus it would really only work at KSC.

EDIT: Although, there are planes with built-in air stairs.  This might be more feasible as the Kerbal could exit the plane inside a cutout once the stairs are deployed.  However it would require new code from Squad.  Specifically they would need a new module, something like "DeployableHatch" that would prevent Kerbals from going EVA while an animation hasn't taken place yet.  The mobility enhancers already sort of simulate this, but as we all know they do not work well with the new Mk1 Cockpit.

Maybe a seperate part that can hold one crew, open up, and have the Kerbal exit? It should only be the length of a FL-T200 or 3/4 of that.

It would solve a lot of problem if cockpits had an inflatable slide to be used to exit and enter the spaceplane.  -WHEE-

Those were what I was thinking of
