Disable Space Engines?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I\'m trying to build a space plane and I\'m having trouble with the space engines. I know they can\'t be deactivated like atmospheric engines, but is there a way around this?

As the engines do need a good amount of fuel, I have several stacked fuel tanks for the space engines. I have to deactivate them all individually, and I was trying to make this easier, as in flight some tanks are hidden below wings.

I have tried leaving the engine with one single tank coupled, and the rest detached. A fuel line attached to the next tank. I had hoped that deactivating the first tank would also stop the flow from the others through the fuel line, but didn\'t work.

Maybe someone knows a way around this, or maybe there is a mod or config hack that I haven\'t seen yet that allows to deactivate space engines as is done with atmospheric ones?

Thanks for any help!

I\'m not sure, since I don\'t use it, but I think you can do this sort of thing with the Damned Robotics pack. Check it out anyway, I\'m sure someone will tell me if I\'m wrong.

You could use the VjTurbine from the Damned Aerospace - note that you would have to edit the cfg to make it usable in vacuum - I note the parameter efficiencyVacuum = 0.

I think he was asking for disabling engines. If you have MuMechLib in your plugins folder, you can just change the \'module = LiquidEngine\' line to \'module = MuMechVariableEngine\' ;D

http://svn.mumech.com/KSP/trunk/Releases/MuMechLib.dll, save in plugins folder if you don\'t have it but want to use it ;P

I think I use that link a lot...

Back on topic...

It\'s easy! Just r-click on the tank just above the engine you wish to turn off, and click 'disable fuel flow'. Problem solved.

We never really went off topic...

And also:

Which means he can\'t use that method.

But this was already solved by Kreuzung.

Thanks for all the answers!

Phoenix, as Misterspork said, I can\'t use that method as the next fuel tanks still feed the engine, and they are mostly hidden behind wings, so it\'s cumbersome to access them during flight.

I have Damned Aerospace and Robotics. I can\'t turn the space engines off with that. And I don\'t want to modify performance of the engines either, as then it feels as cheating.

Kreuzung, I will definitely try that! If that works, then it\'s fantastic! I have that plugin installed. But that doesn\'t change engine performance or parameters, right? I only allows to turn it on or off...

AFAIK, yes. All the other parameters are the same...unless you edit those too.

I had a thought about how to do this - create several copies of whatever engines you use, edit the line of code, and rename them as Group A, B, C, etc.

This way you can use engines of the same type, but with an individual toggle for each Group.

Ok, just tested this and it works like a charm! But this brings me to other ideas... That I just see that you colmo just also had...

Now say I want to add other type of engine that will allow for a vertical start. If it\'s another engine type, it will recognize it as another category with it\'s own control? Or do I have to change something in the config.

It\'s very nearly related to what colmo just posted with engines of the same type, which I guess somehow answer my question, but I would like to understand how it works to check which combinations can be done...

This opens so many possibilities!!!

you can add \'group = [groupname]\', see Damned Aerospace ;D

All engines groups will be added to the menu, and each group can be toggled as a whole.

Is this to the part.cfg, or the craft file?
