The Kerbin Vehicular Challenge- GROUND VEHICLE COMPETITION

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the KVC.

Please read all of the below sections.

What is the KVC?

A ground vehicle competition. Anything that flies or hovers (other than a hybrid jet/rover) is disqualified immediately.

Can I use mods?

Yes, just list them. Just not too many, okay? Under ten are allowed.

Part cap?

500.

Disqualified parts?

As of Feb. 22, no MK3 crew cabins, Hitchikers, or anything else like them.

Scoring system?

Innovative designs: 1 point. Ahead of the curve. Impress me.

Intelligent designs: 1 point. Put some thought into it.

Safe designs: 1 point. We're going for safe. Must survive crash test.

Abort systems: 1 point. As long as it gets your crew out of trouble.

Each Kerbal: 1 point. Hitchhiker on a stick rigs disqualified for this one.

Each dead Kerbal: -2 points. We're going for safe.

Tests?

1. STRENGTH A

Corner crash test into the VAB. (1 point / -2 points)

2. STRENGTH B (1 point / - 2 points)

Head-on crash test into the VAB.

3. STRENGTH C (1 point / -0 points)

See if your design holds together in the water. Launched off the runway at top speed. Super kudos if it survives. (basic top speeds are around 50 mph)

4. ENDURANCE A (5 points / - 10 points)

A 15 km drive out, then back. Kudos for the quickest.

5. ENDURANCE B (5 points / - 5 points)

Towing a load of 40 tons 5 km out, then back. Kudos for the best tow vehicle.

6. ENDURANCE C (10 points / - 15 points)

Carting a load of passengers, fuel, and supplies 15km out.

Do I need to make a passenger/fuel/supplies and tow vehicle?

If you want to, go ahead. Otherwise just send me a basic version. P.S. all strength tests require a basic frame with cab, etc. Modules if you'd like.

Innovative designs: 1, It's triple decked, have you ever seen a triple decked rover before?

Intelligent designs: 1, It was intelligently designed for maximum efficiency.

Safe designs: 1, It's impossible to blow up with this unless you crash into something.

Kerbals: 1344, No hitchhiker and not stick shaped.

Tests: -2-2-10-5-15 = -34, I could've done 3,4,5,6 but I'm too lazy.

Total score: 1,310 points.

No mods, Does not fly, Does not hover.

I present the T. Indicus Rover, a 48 part 4.4 ton rover.

It's suprisingly capable, and could likely survive all the test (though I'm too lazy and tired to try out the endurance test.) It survived all three strength test, though it preforms terribly in water, which makes the LES very useful.

It is, on its own, capable of lugging around the 40ton ore trailer in the imgur album, but it is horrible at turning- which is why it has those huge wheels in the back.

It's safe, practical, and could easily be reconfigured to lug around a trailer full of kerbals.

You get Super Kudos. Great abort system, guess Jeb won't be going swimming today. You get 7 points for this. Also, I should probably block the MK3 crew cabins, too..

Not very innovative. A bunch of MK3 crew cabins stacked on top of eachother. Safe- "unless you crash into something" no. You're excepted from the hitchhiker on a stick because of clever wording, however. Gave me a laugh.
