Plot twist

Make a statement. The person who replies will make a statement that takes things in a new direction that is scary, humorous, or otherwise surprising to the reader. Some example:

 

1. Bob changed, got into bed, and turned out the light.

- Had it been his house the night may have been more restful for him.

 

*Ahem* I start:

Jeb boarded the shuttle, along with his seven crew members. He felt that, finally, his dream was about to come true.

As the shuttle exploded violently around him, he grinned and thought, "This time, perhaps." The cockpit hurtled toward the ground.

 

The prospector drew a core sample from the asteroid. The precious metals glistened at him from the asteroid's heart.

Suddenly, the probe embedded into the asteroid, then, a few femtoseconds later, got flung off at fifteen times the speed of light, There was no mark on the asteroid where the probe sat. Do not taunt magic boulder.

 

 

"This plan is a success!" exclaimed Von Braun to the crowd...

The struggle, right?

I guess like the rest of the internet, often what becomes popular is completely random, and this popularity snowballs with replies, making small threads much harder to stay afloat. And then there's the cool ones that stop after 20-50 replies for no real reason.

I dunno. I guess never expect your thread to take off and become a perpetual thing. Then you may be pleasantly surprised.

Um, wait more than three hours. It can take days to get a thread rolling in the games subforum. I've started several. Just be patient.

The parachute fires with the bottom engine due to a staging error. Jeb tumbles through the air, grinning.

 

As the person turned to run, the monster broke free of its restraints...
