How to survive on Laythe-Kerlee's Log

DMSP

Hi all, I'm posting this because I "accidentally" stranded Val and Kerlee Kerman on Laythe (not in my main save). This is a quick step away from DMSP, playing with an underdeveloped space program can be tedious sometimes...

So, this is Kerlee's log.

#18 Well, Moho.

I mean, what the Moho. What the actual MOHO!

Well, as I said last time, the ship is doing fine. Except we aren't in it. It's in a deteriorating Low Laythe Orbit.

And I'm sitting on a slope near a massive crater lake.

This is exactly what happened:

So it was pretty normal, having just arrived in LLO. We were waiting for Jeb and Bob to arrive in their ship, known as Transport 3. It carried this little plane that I had helped design back on Kerbin. Nice plane and all, meant to send down stuff to the base we were going to be setting up. Once we landed it, we could land the drop pods near it (which itself would be near the Laythe Ascent Vehicle) and set up shop.

But there was a problem. It was little at first, just a coolant leak. Val told me to get into the Drop pod, and I obeyed. Sure, I'm the engineer, but I can't help the problem.

The engines turning on frightened me. The light turned red. I noticed that we were starting to rotate.

I thought, 'Ok. Ok. Everything's ok. Val will get this under control. Val is good a...' Only to see Val swing in to the drop pod with me.

Her left hand was white with a burn, and I didn't even know what to say.

Before I knew it, both makeshift escape pods were rocketing out, ours and the empty one. The empty one lost one of its thrusters and careened into the heatsheild of the command ship.

I was speechless. Blacking out seemed like the best thing to do.

When I woke up, Val was outside, on Laythein soil. She caught me up and told me that she couldn't override the "Return" function of the pods and now they were a couple hundred kilometers from their only ride home, the blasted Laythe Ascent Vehicle.

It took me a moment to take that in. I asked Val if I could head outside, and I felt it was nice to stand on a moon after all these years in deep space.

Well. That's me signing off. Bob will be here in a few days so we'll wait for our plane.

But Moho, Moho, MOHO.

Something about this seems familiar yet different...?

Really?

I don't think I've ever seen something like this before.

WAIT [Edit]

The Martian.

#19 Sometimes...

There's nothing in our KIS box. No pipes, no wrenches, no bases, NOTHING! The other escape pod must have had them and this one must have had all its stuff left on board.

Val's freaking out. No one knows we are alive. Heck, wasn't there some movie made about this? "Evestranded" or "Evesick" or something. Starring Merk Kerman.

We just have to hope that our 20 days of food are enough to escape off this rock.

On another note, we tracked a pile of debris to about 24.9 Kilometers away from here. It seems like they're parts from one of the large cargo carriers. Probably Jool Expedition 2. What a disaster that was. It's a miracle that right now, all 9 of them are safely at home.

I hope our luck will turn out the same.

Have you given up on this?

Nope.

#24 Stupid Probes...

Bob arrived in Laythe Orbit today. We noticed the light reflecting off his spacecraft from the ground.

It was about two days later when we saw DropPlane-1 coming in Hot.

It was one fireball, that's for sure. Val and I watched it until it vanished behind the hill that we rest on.

When we saw it jump over and skid, we knew it wasn't going to make it to the pod.

One of the fuel tanks must have exploded. We're checking it out tomorrow to make sure no fuel gets on our suits.

That's it for now!

Well... At least they aren't stuck orbiting kerbol... Like my Jeb and Bill...

That must be bad. Send them some KIS stuff and they may or may not find a way home!

I don't have any mods. Just really big rockets that like to spontaneously combust.

I'm actually considering quitting KSP for a few months. I had made it really far, Kerlee and Val's ascent vehicle was almost done, and then the Kraken came and hit them. I had quicksaved before, and after I reloaded the quicksave, Kerlee was attached to an Inline Reaction Wheel (0.625), which must have been a KIS glitch.

She went flying off. No matter how many times I reloaded, the same thing happened. This save is corrupt and unfortunatly it is time for it to go.

Thank you guys for reading this. If you were just reading this and don't have another story, I do have DMSP-The story of a space program.

Thanks again guys, DMSP out.

The full album is below.
