Is there anyway to add new categories in the "Stock" section ?

What I mean is, right now we have 8 categories: Pods, Fuel tanks, Engines, Command and Control, Structural, Aerodynamics, Utility and Science.
What I would want would be to add say a category called "Electrics and Batteries" with the icon already in game "R&D_node_icon_advelectrics.png".
I really want to be able to just dump all batteries, solar panels and Power cells into that category  as it would "clean-up" and make building easier.

I know you can create a custom category, and I have done it, but I lose a bar worth to keep it open and I'd rather have my custom categories in the main bar with the possibility to set them in the order I want. (Mine would be after Command&Control)
I'm open to file editing and all that in case an official Dev wants to tell me/teach me how to do it.

Just a pet peeve of mine, and it will become even more important with 1.1 out and all the mods I will be using.

There should be a little box on the top left of the part selector for the advanced menu.  This menu has the kind of details you are looking for.  The most recent devnote also gave us a teaser of a fantastic new search function coming out in 1.1.

I know... let explain with a picture... will be better I think.

 

As I said, I already have a custom category :

 

But I want my category to be part of the "Main Menu" so I don't have to CONSTANTLY go back and forth between the Two.  
Hence me asking for help on the forums about doing so

 

I believe I will have to manually edit the pieces to fit the new category, but it should be over pretty quick once I get to it (just editing one line out of each part).
The main challenge is to first create the category and put it in the appropriate order.

Some mods do this (bd armory, infernal robotics etc.) i think it's possible, but i dont know how.
