Minmus Orbit doesn't register

Recommended Posts

So I accepted the mission to explore Minmus, I got there and made my orbit but the game doesn't seem to recognise it, i tried it at 10km, 12km and 20 km

The only mod i have is MechJeb (Installed just before i launched this mission) and i only installed that to help me place the nodes and work out my Dv

It registered that i had successfully transmitted science back. Any ideas why this is? Does it need to be a manned thing? I also didn't get the milestone for orbiting Minmus

That's really odd, it ought to work.  This is some sort of bug.

No, it doesn't have to be manned.

A couple of things to try:

  • If you save the game, and then reload from the save, does it complete the "orbit" milestone?
  • What if you thrust until you're on an escape (or suborbital) trajectory, and then thrust the other way to restore orbit again?  Any difference?
  • If that still won't complete:  go ahead and land, and transmit science from the surface.  Then see whether "orbit" completes when you take off from Minmus and achieve orbit.

If none of those work, then I have no idea.  If it ultimately won't complete, I'd say this would be one of those cases where you'd be totally justified in using the Alt+F12 debug menu to force the contract as "completed", since it's not your fault that the game doesn't recognize what you've accomplished.

saving and quitting didn't do it. But i was able to complete the landing one. Sadly the probe doesn't have enough fuel to get back up as it was never designed to do that. I am going to send a manned mission over there soon enough anyway.

Fair 'nuff.  But at this point, I'd say you're justified in using the cheat menu to complete the contract, if you don't feel like waiting until the manned mission.

I will let you know how it goes. At the moment i am about to go and try and do my first ever rescue stranded kerbonaut mission

That's really weird.  A few thoughts:

  • Is this a new problem?  Not sure how new you are to KSP.  Is this a case of "this used to work, I do it all the time, but now it's suddenly not working"?  Or is this the first "explore ___" contract you've done?
  • What sort of mods are you running?  Any chance one of 'em is getting in the way?
  • This is grasping at straws, but... if you open the debug log via Alt+F12, anything interesting there?  For example, is there anything that's spewing loads of exceptions?
