Bulky Rover Transport Help!

Recommended Posts

I was wondering how to mount this thing:

onto something like this:

The rover doesn't have anywhere to place docking ports etc to make it symmetrical. How should I attach it to my ship?

(Yes some of these are modded parts, and I am going to mount engines onto the orbiter)

Put compressed images so they were really small, uncompressed are present now

Welcome to the forums!

So, the second screenshot's a little hard to make out for sure (it's kinda dark), but I gather that you have this big interplanetary ship and you want to mount the rover to it.

Does the interplanetary ship have a docking port on the front?  You could mount the rover there.  From looking at your rover, it appears that the underside is fairly flat-- you could mount a docking port on the rover's underbelly, carefully positioned under the CoM, and dock it to the front end of your interplanetary transport.  Would that work?

Yeah, I forgot to add a docking port to the front, so I'm at a loss on how to mount this thing and the engines. I could have radial nukes and have the rover in between them? Would the rover explode?

Edit: Thanks for the warm welcome, I have a lot of time in the game so far and I'm loving it!

Edit Number 2: Sorry if this is a bit off-topic but when will i get to post without mod approval? I don't like waiting haha.

Not quite sure what you mean-- are you saying that you have a rear-facing docking port on the back end of the orbital transport?  If so:  yeah, that would be a great place for it.  Might even be better than the front, actually, because docking port connections can be a bit "floppy" when connecting large/massive things, so setting it up so that you're pulling the rover rather than pushing it may be more stable.

Radial nukes should work just fine, as long as you have them spaced widely enough that their exhaust isn't hitting the rover.

That, I have no idea.  However, I seem to recall someone else asking about it in the last few weeks.  Don't recall off the top of my head exactly what the answer was, but I think the introductory "probation" period wears off pretty soon.

Three posts.

Looking at the two craft there doesn't appear to be anywhere simple to attach the Rover.

One thing you might try is to attach the Rover. Once you have the Rover where you like add gyros to either, or as a separate unit, to counteract the imbalance. KER will give you an idea of how much to add.

Though if you add two then you won't have to worry about the torque from the imbalance.

I don't quite understand what you mean here.

Any idea where to place them? Should I have them at the end and then dock the rover behind?

By the way, thank you guys for answering.

Well, you've got those big booms sticking out on left and right sides (the ones with the solar panels).  You could mount 'em there, for example using a BZ-52 for each one.  Might need a couple of struts to reinforce the booms to stop them from flexing, if you're using them as thrust points.

Anyway, those booms stick out so far to the side that if you mount your engines out there, you should have plenty of clearance in the middle to mount large objects (such as the rover) on the rear of the ship without obstructing the nuke exhaust.

Quite welcome!  It's what this forum is for:)
