Tourist Trouble

Recommended Posts

I have a tourist boat out of fuel orbiting the Mun with no docking port. There is ONE tourist on board. A rescue vessel has arrived to save them, but he cannot EVA, is he doomed, or is there ANY way to save him?

This isnt my first rodeo, but I literally cannot think of any method short of cheating, or getting out and pushing, which isnt going to get them home from the Mun orbit. IDEAS?

I haven't tried it, but you may be able to transfer tourists to another part on the same vessel with the right click menu, like you can your own Kerbals.

If so, then as the Klaw binds two vessels in one in exactly the same way as docking you will be able to transfr them to a safe re-entry vehicle and release the old craft..

Huh, never thought of that, but that means a return burn from Mun orbit to re-entry... while holding another spacecraft with a big damn claw. Wow.

I think you can transfer fuel to the craft once it's grabbed in the claw.

And I have once brought down a Kerbal in a clawed item--I wasn't thinking and launched a grabber without an empty seat.  (I had tourists that wanted to orbit the body where I was doing the rescue mission.)

When you KLAW some other vessel the game considers of them as docked. This means you can transfer Kerbals between capsules (right click menu on the hatch).

When you have transferred your tourist to the rescue craft capsule you can release the klaw and fly home.

Klaw him and bring him back to Kerbin this way, it'll be fun (tested on rescue/deliver parts from orbit missions), just don't forget to put extra chute on rescue ship and don't reenter right from Mun transfer orbit, get to 70 km circular orbit and descend gently. Having some extra juice in tanks to lose speed faster during reentry will also help not to worry about having heatshield (which may not be easy to keep in right direction in such cases).
