VERY frequent VAB crashes

When entering the vab and making a spaceship the game will crash almost every time when editing parts or when launching, please send help!

What mods are you running? I have the same problem, maybe we can find a similarity. The game does NOT have the VAB crash problem running stock, so it HAS to be a mod, or combination of mods that cause the instability.

Also, are you using CKAN? I know there are some modders who aren't exactly big fans of it, but I'm going to try using ONLY mods that CKAN has updated and explicitly stated are for 1.1.2 and see if the VAB crashes persist.

I haven't had any crashes when playing on 64 bit (Although I've only been playing on 64 bit for a couple of minutes) maybe it was just running out of memory.

Mods:

Chatterer

Gravityturn (no UI though, kind of weird)

Kerbal engineer

Kerbalism (really awesome mod!)

Mechjeb

Nereid (final frontiers)

PreciseNode

ScanSat

Triggertech (Kerbal alarm clock)

Btw I'm using linux.

Hmm, maybe you were running out of memory, but then again, I don't see any mods in that list that would drive up RAM usage by very much (big parts mods like B9, KW, or BlueDog.) Linux is a whole other ball game too.

I was running Kerbalism myself, and it does change quite a bit about the game, regarding shielding, food, etc... (stuff that WOULD pop up when selecting them in the VAB) I note that Kerbalism is for 1.1, not 1.1.2 (I've started to treat anything not explicitly for 1.1.2, as just as incompatible as something from 1.0.5, or 0.19, just to be on the safe side regarding crashes) Maybe I'm totally wrong, but Kerbalism is the only mod in there that is both not for 1.1.2, and affects stuff inside the VAB.

I've had crashes in the VAB in stock too, so I think it's save to say I was running out of memory. The reason I didn't try playing on 64 bit was because of my low end laptop would have no boost of performance on 64 bit but I think I was wrong.

Quite surprised how well this laptop can handle KSP at high-ish settings (no real performance difference between lowest settings and mid high settings, so why not use mid high, right?) at a doable 20 Fps when lifting off, later 40 ish Fps.

2 GB RAM

2.1-ish GHz CPU

200-ish GB harddrive

I also experience those VAB-crashes. Almost always when trying to pick a part in "transparency mode" (parts that are in the VAB without being rooted to the ship).

Specs :

- Windows 10 Home, KSP 32 bits but also tried Windows 10 Home, KSP x64
- DirectX 11
- AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 245 @ 2913 MhZ
- 6GB RAM
- NVIDIA GeForce GT240

Mods :

- Module Manager 2.6.24
- Chatterer
- Kerbal Konstructs
- Kerbin Side
- Contract Configurator
- Kerbin Side jobs
- Remote Tech
- TAC life-support
- Texture Replacer

I didn't have any crashes in VAB until I started adding mods again. I don't think it's any mod in particular. Just mods in general. From what I've seen and read, it's a memory address problem with Unity. This post explains it as good as any I've seen :

I uninstalled all mods, uninstalled KSP, and started fresh. If you use CKAN, and ONLY use mods marked as 1.1.2 compatible, you are less likely to have these random crashes.
