Thrustmaster Warthog with KSP

Recommended Posts

Just wondering, I have the previous iteration - a HOTAS Cougar.

If anyone is not familiar, it is the predecessor to the HOTAS Warthog, it is built to similar standards, based on the throttle+stick of an F-16, though with the components of the day, it is not quite as advanced as the HOTAS Warthog.

Full disclosure, the Cougar had a design flaw which meant the speedbreak switch on the throttle failed quickly, which mine did.

I want to upgrade to the Warthog and was wondering if anyone would see any value in a second-hand, cut-price Cougar?

(Im not offering to sell it here, only asking if people think there would be worthwhile)

Its a little beat upand the sensors are old (so a little finnicky, but they may perform better if I give them a clean) but it is still very functional and the software is just as powerful as it is today.

Would anyone pay half price for it? Third price? I'd call it a good deal for someone who wants to go for the heavy-duty realism but find the £300 price tag of a new Warthog a little intimidating to the wallet.

Pro's

All of the rugged build quality of Thrustmaster HOTAS, along with the extensive programming interface, in a cut-price package.

Con's

Speedbreak switch broken (due to built-in design flaw)

Pitch/Yaw sensors are older tech and are a little finnicky, there is some noise when idle, but with a little deadzone it has not been noticeable in flight (DCS: A10C, DCS: Blackshark.) It may improve significantly if I give it a clean.

Mild cosmetic issues, including missing rubber dustguard/seal (I removed this as the Cougar was known for quite strong springs, removing the guard lessened it a bit).

So should I see if I can sell it, or should I just bin it?

Before you bin it, send it to me :)

seriously though, are we talking about the flight stick only or do you have a throttle unit to go along with it?

Seeing that people try to sell used cheap joystick I dont get why you shouldnt be able to sell yours. I would probably take it if you offer a good price, but I am overseas and we are looking at quite a substantial shipping fee here.

Yeah the shipping might be a killer what with its dang rugged construction! Where is "overseas"? Its a relative term lol!

Yup, got the throttle+stick.

If I ever stick it on ebay or anything, I'll drop you a PM.

Yes, please do. I live in Switzerland. I think we are looking at around 100 bucks for shipping (assuming you are in the states), which indeed would be hard to justify.

Might be a little less since Im in the UK. I won't be selling it in the next few days or anything, I have to get the replacement first!
