Difference between Antennas <-> Data Transmitter (RemoteTech)

Recommended Posts

After RemoteTech now is up to 1.12 i started a new Longtime savegame.

Now i recognize that there are Antennas - which have a maximum distance in description - and Data Transmitter, which have a Bandwith instead.

Cant remember if that was also in earlier version of game and mod. Just remember that it was a story of hours transmitting mass of sciene data from a MPL back home.

If i set up a Kerbin network (+Mun + Minmus) do i need now an antenna (to control unmanned probes) AND a data transmitter?

Whats the difference of them... ?

Thanks for hints and tips.

Hey Jans,

I'm still playing 1.0.5 with remote-tech. With this version no difference is stated, but today I noticed that I can't perform orbital survey with the survey scanner using a probe with only RemoteTech antennaes. Due to this I think that now already things with the (stock) ore sensors will need both, and maybe the lab as well. Can't say anything for sure though, Cause I haven't got 1.1

I'm having a hell of a time finding what you mean by data transmitters, so I'll just tell you what I know:

I've set up a ring of sats around kerbin, and a ring around moon, without data transmitters, and I've transmitted science back to ksc from the farside of the moon with a probe.

I believe it is stock functionality and not remote tech that you are having an issue with.  The bandwidth is a part of stock and dictates how long you have to transmit for. When I first encountered this behavior I found the reason I could not transmit was a lack of power. I ended up having to send up a replacement sat with more power.

I could not find a mention of bandwidth in a search of remotetech's material.
