finding "places" on planets for contracts?

Recommended Posts

I have a contract to take seismic readings at 5 places on Minmus, all in the same "area". I've managed to land close (as far as I can tell) but I have no indication of where to go to be at one of the 5 sites? I can see them in map view but that does me no good when attempting to land, or go to each of the 5 required sites? How do I land next to these 5 sites with any accuracy?

You can see the contract waypoints on the map.  You can double-click (or maybe right-click) on any marker and it will activate a navigation mode that will give you a target icon on your navball.  Then you fly in the direction of that icon.  If the contract calls for being above the ground at a certain altitude, be sure you're that high.  If you have to be on the ground, then you need to land there.

Each contract waypoint has a fairly large radius around it where you satisfy the requirements so you don't have be exactly landed on or flying of the waypoint.  You'll see some text pop up saying you're entering that area, at which point you can run the experiments required (or land and run the experiments).  Usually, once you're in the navigation mode, completing the contract at one waypoint automatically makes the next closest waypoint appear as a navball icon.

Once you are landed, the map view allows you to zoom in a lot closer, too. So yes, double clicking one of the target locations puts a direction marker on your navball. Then when you are landed close, you zoom in and see which direction you need to go. At that point it would be best if you had a rover, but you can hop there with a lander, too. Hopping is just a little tricky.
