Crashes in Spaceplane Hangar

I've been playing KSP for a couple of years now and just recently(maybe 1.1?) my game has started crashing consistently when I'm building planes in the Spaceplane Hangar. Nowhere else. I'll be moving parts around and the game will freeze. I've left it on to see if it stops freezing but it doesn't and eventually it crashes. I don't think memory is the problem. I have 8 GB of RAM and a hex core processor. I don't have problems in any other games or earlier before the problem started.
