Leaderbord Integrated w/ Steam Achievments

Recommended Posts

Sorry if it looks like I'm spamming the suggestions thread I'm in an airport and won't have WiFi soon. Anyway, I play this iOS game called Extreme Road Trip 2, and they have a leaderboard. At first I thought the game was boring but then I saw my neighbor got a higher score than me. We had a 2 month long competition. I this has been requested before but all we really need is Steam achievements and a leaderboard UI. It's a temporary replacement for multiplayer, and it can spark space races and competitions from people that you may have not known to even have the game. Here's some features I've love to see implemented:

  • the ability to challenge players and it would notify you of the other player's projects and track their missions
  • there could possibly be a mobile app to compare project and track there missions
  • The ability to see their ships on your map view

I assume it would be secure as it would he hosted on a Valve server, but that would be a technical issue.

I don't know servers.

What about those players that don't want to use steam?

It's not really something that appeals to me personally, but I can see that many players would enjoy such a feature, so why not, if it's done well.  I think the main problem would be defining 'progress' or 'success' to determine positions on any leaderboard.  I just don't think the open nature and wide diversity of play styles of KSP lends itself well to this.

Well the game would include the achievements, but Steam would just sync with it.

Progression would be like the ribbons, where you've been, how many times you've been there, how long you've flown in-game and irl, and something like the R&D "what you've discovered menu".

EDIT: Also, I'd add user made goals, which I'll rob from my other thread:

Basically, a menu displays options where you choose the projects target(SOI, Landed, Orbit, Impacter) and where those would apply(Mun, Duna, etc)

Then it would show a deadline, and your contracts(which should be in the admin building imho) would be contracts that do with your program. For example, let's say you make an Eeelo program mid game. The contracts would be long-range efficient engines, large fuel tanks, and Eeelo missions. Let's say that your program(which would include the mission name instead of the vessel name) is a probe lander. Contracts would be "get a sample from Eeelo".

This combines a sense of progression and high replayability, while being heavily based on the fact it's a user generated mission. You choose your programs, and you are running your space program. Not a computer.
