The Yakovlev Yak-38 was Soviet Naval Aviation's only operational VTOLstrike fighter aircraft, in addition to being its first operational carrier-based fixed-wing aircraft. It was developed specifically for and served almost exclusively on the Kiev-class aircraft carriers.

Nice job, although I will never understand why people use the Mk 1 cockpit for something that is supposed to be a bubble canopy. In my opinion it looks like some crazy mashup of a private jet and a high powered fighter jet.

After playing Wargame, I've learned to love the Yak-38, with it being the only plane the USSR has that can carry napalm.

It is near impossible to get that nosecone shape without it.

*cough*

Simple, but it works and doesn't sacrifice the somewhat more authentic cockpit shape.

My personal opinion says that is pure ugly. However, it also isn't as skinny as the above fighter, and nothing is sacrificed by not using a bubble canopy.

There's nothing stopping him or anyone else from using the Mk 1 cockpit, but to me it just ruins the "fighter jet look". For some craft I think it works fine, like th SR-71 or MiG-31, an aerial recon plane and long range interceptor, neither of which necessarily require the good visibility of a strike aircraft such as the Yak (the SR-71 and MiG-31 have solid tops on their canopies instead of bubbles anyway).

He should use whatever cockpit he wants and if he wants to use that one, there isn't anything I can do to stop him. We all have different tastes and if he prefers that one, at the end of the day, it's fine by me.

EDIT: It appears my point has been misunderstood. I still think that cockpit is ugly in that context, but if he wants to use it I'm fine.
