So, Dres Asteroids? Where the heck are they??

Recommended Posts

I keep hearing about the Dres-teroids, but so far I have found none. Currently I have a satellite in orbit around Dres, but I can't see any either in map mode or in the tracking station. I've waited about 50 kerbin days(?) and still none found. My save file was started post 1.0, so.... I dunno if it's just because I have to start a new game or what. I dont have any near-kerbin asteroids being tracked right now, save for a couple. Am I doing something wrong or do I just have to wait longer for dresteroids to appear? I've got inbound missions going to Dres right now, all designed to harvest asteroids around dres, but if I can't do that, my mission won't really go as planned.

EDIT**

Well, it turns out that the Dres-teroids are no myth! They are definitely a thing in the stock game. If you try to send a mission to Dres as well for the sake of the asteroids, don't freak out if you dont see them at first. It takes them quite a while to start spawning in once you enter the SOI of Dres. And they ONLY start spawning once you are in Dres' SOI! It took my mission about 70-80 kerbin days for them to start showing up (and they show up either in map mode or in the tracking station). Super excited to start kicking off my mission and it will go better than I expected.

First you would need Sentinel Space Telescope and you can find it here. Then you have to put it in solar orbit between Duna and Dres and start scanning. After some time warp you should start to see appearance of asteroids around Dres,at least this is how it worked in 1.0.5.
Myself never tried this in 1.1.x,since all the parts except for the telescope are now become stock.

Here is a link from popular youtuber explains it little more detailed

They are.

However, this is the second thread I've seen since 1.1 that asks "where are they?", so perhaps something unintentionally stopped them from appearing? But admittedly, I've never been to Dres, so I couldn't tell you how they work in the first place. Maybe you first need to have a ship in the SoI before you can see them?

Actually, on the contrary, none of that is necessary. I just found an E asteroid around Dres. Had to give it about 100 or so kerbin days for something to show up!

They are stock, unless something has changed recently, but like @Der Anfang said, they can take a while.  I'm currently tracking 16 of them.

A couple things I've noticed.  First, you must have a satellite in orbit of Dres for them to begin spawning.  Once they do, they show up as unknown objects until you begin tracking them in the tracking station.  And finally, if you aren't actively tracking them, they will disappear randomly as well.

(The spoilers do show Dres-teroids (the spoiler within the spoiler is much closer to a Dres-teroid, though I won't show for anti-spoiling purposes a ship docked to one, unless you wish to see a ship docked to a Dres-teroid), be warned)

I have mined Dres-teroids before, and shall tell you to look for them in an orbit of 18,000,000-22,000,000 meters above Dres (those are good for the periapsis and apoapsis when burning for Dres orbit from an escape trajectory). Once you have arrived in orbit of Dres, they will begin to spawn (be patient, timewarp 'till they spawn once in orbit) (I don't know for sure whether they will spawn just by entering its SOI, and I don't know if they will continue to spawn if you leave it).

It took more than 80 Kerbin days if I remember correctly (it was more time than you have waited for) for Dres-teroids to spawn in my save.
